With #Majorana1, #Microsoft Says Quantum Is Years Away
Mitra Azizirad, pres and COO of strategic missions wrote world was at “advent of the reliable #quantumcomputing era,” adding that “as our industry looks toward the next twelve months, the pace of quantum research and development is only going to accelerate, making this a critical and catalyzing time for business leaders to act.” Introducing a new chip based and a new state of material – topological superconductivity.

The Next Platform · With Majorana, Microsoft Says Quantum Is Years, Not Decades, AwayAs if you don’t have enough to do with the AI revolution, Microsoft says that 2025 is also the year that organizations need to begin getting ready for

I've heard the claim that #QuantumComputing will be the next #fad in #tech once the #AIBubble bursts completely. The thing about that is that quantum computers seem to actually have broad potential for improvement of how we use computers. So-called "AI" has a very narrow scope of actual usefulness, but billionaires already wanted an excuse to cut the lower rungs off the ladder via automation, so they didn't care how many cracks they left in the façade trying to ram a square peg into a round hole

Call for Talks and Workshops - Quantum Village 4 @ DEFCON 33!

We're very excited and pleased to announce that out Call for Talks/Workshops for this year's event is now OPEN! At Quantum Village we want to 'Access All Quantum States'; from how to hack quantum networks to how quantum engineering might shift our collective futures. And we want YOU to be a part of this incredible year!

So far we are lining up amazing activities including our Quantum Capture the Flag, quantum art demonstrations, our upcoming hackable Open Source Quantum Device... do you have what it takes to join the Quantum Hacker Elite?

Google DocsCall for Talks/WorkshopsAt Quantum Village we want to 'Access All Quantum States'; from how to hack quantum networks to how quantum engineering might shift our collective futures. We have a plethora of new activities, open to all levels, for hackers to come and learn quantum technologies - workshops, some talks, interactive demonstrations, and real quantum hardware! This year, we are launching our first open source quantum device, and it is designed to be the world's first hackable quantum device! Inspo List: Here are some things we are especially keen to showcase - but this list isn't exclusive! * Quantum Hacking and Security Research. e.g. from Grover's, Shor's, Regev's Algos to Qubit Crosstalk and the threat model for quantum computers * Quantum Networking: e.g. Microwave/Photonic Bridges, photonics experiments, etc. * Modular Quantum Computer Designs * Quantum Computing Hardware Deepdives: Photonics/Neutral Atoms * Open Source Quantum Hardware Projects * Quantum Algorithms Explainer/Intros for the Layman * Quantum Applications in the Wild * Quantum and the Arts... Creative approaches/applications and what quantum culture might look like... * Quantum Sensing and Metrization - how quantum sees the world differently, and is that better? * Policy/Standards/Ethics for Quantum Tech - who controls the quantum future? Talks should be around 45mins, 90mins for workshops if they have an interactive component. For intro talks we like that this is ideally someone with substantial experience or record of teaching - this helps to ensure that n00bs get the best start possible. We are looking to get all of the responses in by mid-May and then quickly turned around! **DISCLAIMER** - Quantum Village and DEF CON are NOT sales conferences, and we will reject without review any talks that look like they are garnered towards selling services outside of the bounds of our remit.

A nice primer around what quantum computing's impact will be to the world & what makes Microsoft's Majorana 1 quantum processor unique:

✅ Up to 100x more efficient w/ built-in error protection on physical qubits without using software-based error correction

✅ Potentially 1000x more powerful with extreme processing density capable of having 1 million qubits on a single chip

Microsoft has several fully operational Majorana 1 quantum processors, running single topological qubits for measurement & testing components of the processor.

And what we show in public is not a 'rendering' or a mock up: The Majorana 1 is a REAL & AUTHENTIC chip & we are displaying it with all components included.

»The Quantum Apocalypse Is Coming. Be Very Afraid:
What happens when quantum computers can finally crack encryption and break into the world’s best-kept secrets? It’s called Q-Day—the worst holiday maybe ever.«

Since this is very much for us, I cannot deny it, but I see it as a marketing propaganda. To scare is also a marketing strategy.

UK cybersecurity agency National Cyber Security Centre is recommending that organisations start replacing existing asymmetric public key cryptosystems with post-quantum cryptography (PQC) alternatives to defend themselves against quantum computers

www.computing.co.ukQuantum computing is coming for your cryptography, warns NCSCNo need to panic just yet, but plans to move to quantum-safe alternatives should be in place by 2028 at the latest

The NCSC has put out new guidance and a timeline for organisations to prepare for and protect against threats posed by future developments in quantum computing - by 2035.

"Quantum computing is set to revolutionise technology, but it also poses significant risks to current encryption methods," says NCSC Chief Technical Officer Ollie Whitehouse.

“As quantum technology advances, upgrading our collective security is not just important – it’s essential."

#introduction Heya

I'm an ever-on-the-fence about social media kind of person. I briefly lived here as @fomosapien@emacs.ch before its untimely demise.

I will post mostly about #emacs probably.

I do not consider myself to be a professional, but technically I develop software in #commonlisp for a living and have in the past worked in #quantumcomputing at a venerable science laboratory.

My education is in #mathematics and #philosophy

If I could afford it, I'd fry donuts for a living
