First fully 3D-printed microscope costs just £50
Scottish scientists have created the world's first fully 3D-printed microscope, capable of sub-cellular resolution - clearly imaging individual red blood cells and detailed structures in a kidney sample. Built using open-source designs and common 3D printers, the device can be assembled in under three hours, making powerful microscopy accessible to researchers worldwide. @adapalmer even better: article says the thing that brought the cost down so much was figuring out how to 3D print plastic lenses without stepping artifacts from the printing process

@WizardOfDocs @adapalmer Pretty wild that you can now print optics of that quality using common 3d printers. That will get some gears moving in some innovative heads. Now how about telescopes?

@adapalmer this is lovely news! It’s… refreshing to see knowledge and innovation used for good causes 🥴

@adapalmer Just shared this with my wife, who works in our local ibrary's Makerspace and has access to two 3D printers.

@adapalmer one hint: all links in Mastodon use thew same space, so you don't need, and in fact it can be counter productive, to use link shorteners.

@mdione I haven’t been able to disable the link auto shortening through the accessibility program I use

@mdione I would like to figure it out. But hopefully the links are at least working short-term.
