I first encountered fan art when I was a teenager frantically downloading every piece of Tolkien art I could find. I still enjoy some of those artworks today, especially those by Tim Kirk, who somehow captures the goofyness of the story often ignored by other artists. I later learned he won five Hugo Awards for best fan artist.
