Thoughtful piece from @brianmerchant on OpenAI ripping off Studio Ghibli.

For my part, I love Hayao Miyazaki to the extent that his work has formed a part of my sense of self.
I feel sick to my stomach seeing people accept OpenAI's invitation to mock and desecrate Studio Ghibli.
OpenAI's attempt at publicly humiliating Miyazaki, and the way people are joining in, feels fascistic.
@tansy @brianmerchant The work of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is popular in large part because of its humanism and concern for ecology. It's a large influence on the solarpunk art style. The people who enjoy it are people who are inclined to be highly critical of the ecological and social harm done by generative AI. So I suspect this is a deliberate insult to Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli, and their fans as well.
(Edited for clarity.)
Agreed! It's just awful
