Hey folks. Wanna play a fun game? Let's imagine our solar/hopepunk future together. I'm looking for specific ideas of what your life/community/neighbourhood would look like. We're talking near future, existing assets/infrastructure/technologies. And we're looking to fight climate change, oppression, inequality, and injustice.

Boosts welcome.

I'm going to start us off:

The larger, underoccupied houses on my street would become homes to unhoused people and refugee families. Current occupants' retirement/social care wouldn't be tied to the value of their house - it would be guaranteed. The three estate agents offices would become community spaces. Folks would mask indoors and we would ensure appropriate ventilation.

We would minimise car use by making public transport free, frequent, well ventilated. The big road that goes past my house would be halved in width, and traffic calming measures installed. The space gained from this could be used in a variety of way, including for safe cycle/scooter/mobility scooter paths.

We would work to build a local community - not to increase house prices but to genuinely look after each other. Make sure that elderly and disabled neighbours (yep that's me) are cared for. Make sure new arrivals to the community (see unhoused people and refugees) are welcomed, valued, cared for. Make sure basic needs (food, housing, healthcare, therapy) are met, and that folks can contribute what they're able. Share skills, cultures, knowledge, tools.

I am really loving all the posts. Little gems of hope and positivity. Insight into all the things people care about. (I hadn't considered light pollution!) Keep them coming, folks! Let's imagine our / world together!
