"This is one of the core reasons that corporate America seems blasé about Trump even as he blows up the human economy. Their leadership believes in a future economy that is no longer built on human well-being, but one in which, as Scott Kupor said, AI eats the world."

I know it sounds insane but it's very possible Trump is crashing the stock market so you won't notice Republicans are about to nuke the Senate.

@susankayequinn during the housing market collapse, everyone who had money sitting in the bank snatched up property like crazy.

I think it's just as likely that they've decided that they can crash the world economy, buy up everything, and entrench a set of oligarchs as rulers.

Seems crazy, but I can't close my eyes as I've watched it happen more and more over the years.

@susankayequinn
I have a game on my Playstation about the aftermath of AI eating the world.
....It's only fun as a game, not as a reality, I assure you.

@susankayequinn Seems like we moved from
"people are assets" to
"people are liabilities"
From:
"Freedom through markets" to
"control through metrics."

This is no Orwellian boot to the face. It's Huxley's soma drip fused with Zuckerberg's ToS. A soft smiling totalitarianism doesn't need to oppress you. Just render you obsolete.

Welcome to the Singularity of Servitude. Enjoy your personalized, optimized, non-refundable doom.

@Gotterdammerung
yes

Which is why the answer isn't a more personalized, more optimized, maybe refundable doom

the answer is rejecting the whole thing

opting out of being a digital prole and participating in surveillance capitalism and radically rethinking everything from how you shop to where you live to how you form bonds with your fellow humans

@susankayequinn Thanks for your reply. It is morally correct but strategically naive. Rejecting the system isn't a lifestyle choice. It's a war of attrition against convenience, conformity & coercion. It's not just what you do, it's how much pain you're willing to endure doing it. Because opting out isn't peaceful. it's punishment. But yes, if you're ready to burn comfort to light the path, then reject it all. Just know this is no detox. It's a crucifixion.
Welcome to PoMo martyrdom.

@Gotterdammerung

well, the system is breaking anyway so...

but I do understand what you're saying.

However, I think you're underestimating how radical some of these choices can be. (And I'm in no way saying individual action is the answer — quite the opposite)

@susankayequinn Totally. Radical refusal is powerful, especially when it's not aesthetic rebellion but lived resistance. You're right. Opting out is no escape. It's confrontation.

Yeah the system is breaking but what we build in the ashes depends on how many choose to live differently now, not just wait for collapse.

Keep the fire lit.
