Making my way to see #Wicked (stage version). It's Christmas. So obviously I am listening to Tom Lehrer...
Oedipus Rex right now 8-)
Oops... My wallet slipped... £30 for a t-shirt??
The Time Dragon is woefully underused in stage and film versions. It was mentioned in the opening narration which made me think it was going to actually appear... But... And, of course, it looms above everything on stage...
There's a woman behind me explaining the premise of the show to the man she's with...
Also, if the pictures in the "brochure" are anything to go by, Fiyero is actually hot* (sorry Jonathan Bailey, you're alright, but...) and Boq** looks like I expect again (also cute)
* Carl Man... But will he beat out Liam Doyle for me??
** Jed Berry - but my go-to is probably always going to be George Ure
'Tis an understudy Fiyero I think... Not as hot.
Also, I think there are costume changes from previous tours... But we still have boys in skirts 8-) I love these costumes
And Boq is missing George Ure's gorgeous Scottish accent...
But it is so good still...
And, with the exception of that *one* bit, the extra bits in the film are not necessary...
Wheeeee.... And we're through.
Now, I must have seen this show since Frozen came out, but the laughter at "they're just shoes. Let it go" line usually feels aimed at the disconnect between the Glinda saying it and Glinda the fashion obsessed... Tonight it felt more meta - that Idina Menzel went on to sing that in Frozen...
Theatrical meta can be fun... I remember Nathan Lane as Roy Cohn in Angels in America telling us La Cage was "best thing on Broadway"
