I was taught that slavery isn't economically viable in a modern society and that is why the south would have inevitably collapsed no matter what.

But when you learn the history you see that slavery managed to reinvent itself in sharecropping, debt peonage, and the prison industrial complex.

So obviously it is economically viable.

Conclusion: assuming horrors will end bc "unsustainable" is a way to avoid taking a stand.
