Patreon now with added explanations in their explanation
Except I am sleepy and this is not my strongest subject.
Who wants to look at the addition to this post and explain how it makes charging a flat transaction for each *pledge* a good thing for creators and patrons? https://blog.patreon.com/updating-patreons-fee-structure/
Iโll try to look at it in the morning, but my eyes glazed over. Right now I just feel cynical.

They are going to charge at the time each pledge is made and monthly thereafter. NOT on the first of the month. Pledges wonโt be bundled and there will actually be a transaction fee for each one. 1/2

This eliminates one of the main reasons for LIKING Patreon. Why donโt they let you add money to a Patreon "wallet" so that there isnโt a fee for each pledge? And why didnโt they explain this part when they announced the thing? This was extremely poorly handled, if itโs even the entire truth. And itโs still going to make One Dollar Patreon not feasible.

@tsaiberia theyโre either incompetent, or lying, or both, and why should I trust them with my money anyway?

@gannet
Yeeeeeap. It's the "per pledge" that pisses me off. You are processing my card ONCE. That means you are ETHICALLY only allowed to charge ONE processing fee.
Creators all over the place are decrying this new system, and some have posted screencaps of the multiple pages of their lost pledges.

@felyn theyโre not going to be aggregating the pledges into one monthly charge anymore. Each pledge is going to be charged separately on different days of the month. So there will in fact be separate transaction fees for each pledge. But it still breaks $1 Patreon.

Yeah, that's part of why it irritates me. They're splitting it up to charge more for it, which ends up costing patrons more. But yes, it utterly kills low-end pledges (anything $5 and less, I think was the last figure I saw?) which makes up a lot of the user base.

@felyn all of my patrons are $5 and less. And all of my pledges are $1 pledges. So yeah.

@gannet Exactly. If this is all that's going on, then *Why Did They Not Say So In The First Place*
