Here's what I did with my weekend. Still some finishing to do tomorrow, but it's coming together.
I'm really pleased with how the laser etching came out on the sleeves and shoulders (it took a lot of work, please clap).
I probably said this last project, but the sewing lesson I'm constantly relearning is that I go fast by going slow. I pinned the collar instead of basting and it came out fine but was very annoying.
For the sleeves, I ease stitched, then basted, and honestly it took less time to actually set them in than it did to complain on the Internet about how annoying it is to set sleeves.
Make it nice or make it twice - and remember: pins are for fitting, not assembly.
Build is done but only one picture because it fits me but not my dress form. I need to redo my moulage; 6 months of consistent rowing has changed my shoulder slope and shape.
And here's the finished costume. I'm taking notes for Version II:
- more screen accurate fabric
- screen print instead of etching the pattern
- do the full bust adjustment (didn't bother because knit, and it's mostly okay but as always, it would be better with)
- flare the skirt (my block has a pencil skirt shape but Una and Uhura's minidress uniforms are more A-line)
@Annalee Holy cow this is great
@aredridel thanks!
@Annalee
Looks fabulous! I had no idea one could laser-etch fabric.
@Annalee oh that's amazing. I'm procrastinating over a blazer/jacket with a sleave that can accomadate a sling for December. It will not be anywhere near as professional as yours.
@Caddi I'm at the point where I look at it and see all the flaws . But good luck with the blazer!
@Annalee I know we all see our flaws, but that doesn't look to have flaws to me. Oh and those dear laser cut icons, I love the whole thing. It's just perfect!
@Caddi I'm resisting the urge to point them out now cause ofc I am :) but thank you!
@Annalee oh wow, that’s amazing!
@Annalee That is truly gorgeous!
@molybdomantic thanks!
@Annalee Brilliant!
@Annalee You look ready for an away team mission!
