Typically the child is between 11-13, and hears/feels a sort of melody when they stand outside under a new moon. The song grows more vibrant and under the light of the full moon after they start hearing the song, they experience their first transformation into a wolf. it is painful, and can be traumatic which is where The Rites of First Change came from. The parents and two to 3 close relatives or pack members take care for the children as they adjust to being in wolf form and find the internal equilibrium that allows them to shift back. It is exceptionally rare for a non-werewolf to be present for the change, even if they are a parent as culturally the first change is one of the most sacred events.

#WorldBuilding
