@universalhub As a South #Boston resident who bikes everywhere I need to go, I can confirm that the #bike infrastructure in S. Boston is truly awful.
What little we have, like the horrendous unprotected bike "lane" on Dot Ave, is so poorly maintained that the lines of the lanes have disappeared or are on the way to doing so. As a result, sure enough, it's incredibly dangerous to ride around S. Boston!
I want to throttle every Boston politician who babbles on about "too much focus on bikes and/or bike lanes" and "we need more parking"... the roads are already beyond capacity w/ cars & trucks ya jackasses, allowing for more parking is just gonna make for even larger traffic jams! Put your damned focus on enabling Bostonians to safely get where they need to go *without* having to drive! e.g. bus/T/rail, walking, biking, scootering, etc. Every citizen safely getting to where they need to go without driving means less motor vehicle congestion on the roads for those who must drive!

Continued thread

we NEED space for people to walk and bike safely
we NEED vehicular access, trash collection, and deliveries
we NEED 8-ish feet of width for fire trucks

Everything else is extravagance. Don't talk to me about filling potholes being basic #transportation, complete low-stress networks for all modes even if you have to cut 90% of thru routes for cars.

Great line from current read "Inclusive Transportation" by Veronica O. Davis:

"if autonomous and electric vehicles do as they predict, all we will achieve is moving congestion more efficiently, with cleaner air."

We know a lot about what would be needed to make mobility more sustainable. However, implementation in Germany has often failed because of legal hurdles.

Thanks to a change in transport law, local authorities now have considerably more opportunities to give health, climate, and the environment more weight in transport planning!

Some Quebec coastal towns have no road to connect them. Will a new approach finally provide a link?
Quebec says the changes to the Highway 138 project will result in the highway being completed more quickly and at a lower cost. But some residents have been waiting decades for the road and are skeptical of new processes.
