A new Bill in #Wales aims to transform local bus services, making them more reliable, affordable, and integrated. The Bus Services (Wales) Bill proposes one network, one timetable, and one ticket across Wales, coordinated nationally with local input. It seeks to improve service delivery via franchised contracts with private, public, and third-sector operators. The Bill tackles issues like poor reliability, unaccepted tickets, and lack of integration with other #transport modes. Benefits include better service, easier transitions between #buses and #trains, and reinvested ticket revenue. The reform will start in South West Wales in 2027, with full implementation across the regions by 2030.

But cars require roads.

Road infrastructure gobbles up gigantic quantities of steel cement and , indirectly, coal.

Cement works use any fuel - oil, gas, household waste. Old tyres in particular are very popular.

But on a global scale they burn mainly coal (70% of their fuel acc to the IEA, 90% acc to cement manufactures.

This is handy stuff—especially if you're thinking about buying a car! (3/3)

A new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the #IsleofMan and #Liverpool City Region aims to strengthen #economic, cultural, and political ties. The agreement focuses on areas such as business, #tourism, #transport, #health, #energy, and public services. The regions share a long history, enhanced by the opening of a new Isle of Man #ferry terminal in Liverpool, which generated £3.2m for the local economy. This MoU is seen as a significant step towards fostering growth and development through increased collaboration. Both Mayor Steve Rotheram and Isle of Man Chief Minister Alfred Cannan highlighted the importance of closer economic ties and mutual benefits. The agreement also includes an annual conference, alternating between the two regions, and will be reviewed regularly to expand cooperation. Greater Manchester’s Starling Bank Bike Hire scheme is set to add 300 new e-bikes, with over half the fleet being electric by summer 2025. This upgrade supports the city's goal for 1 million more sustainable journeys by 2040. Twelve Cycle Hubs have been rebranded, offering secure bike parking near public transport. By the end of March, 130km of segregated walking, wheeling, and cycling routes will be completed, with 176km planned by 2027. The bike hire scheme, currently in #Manchester, #Salford, and #Trafford, will expand to new locations and integrate with the Bee Network’s fare system. Dame Sarah Storey and Mayor Andy Burnham highlighted these steps to improve cycling access, safety, and integration with other #transport modes, including the future possibility of bike carriage on #trams.
