Want to check an unscientific, gut, not data observation about #birds in #SFBayArea over the winter.
Anyone else notice that there are fewer ducks and waterbirds this year, like buffleheads, scaups, widgeon etc.
Also I haven't seen any large cormorant flocks at the headlands or in the bay, which I feel like I see every February.

This could be the beginning of the end of #vaccine development in the US.

@arstechnica given the 🐌 speed at which fiber is deployed in the US this might actually be a good thing given #starlink requires much less ground infrastructure that itself requires so much lead time with planning, permitting and construction. Being a fiber user myself I ❤️ it but given it took years of waiting in #sfbayarea to get it what hope is there then of connecting rural America in this decade ?

Toxic waste cleanups take longer in marginalized Bay Area communities--and even simple remediations lag at sites in socially vulnerable areas.

Affluent communities can exert pressure on regulators to act, as our scientist Ian Wren said. Resource-strapped agencies will not manage a site proactively unless a community forces them to do so.

"It's really a case of, the squeaky wheel gets the cleanup,” he said.

1) Zooming around the #sfbayarea going to #art events with my spouse. Art community here was decimated by the tech booms & then the pandemic. (How many art spaces got priced out & replaced by startups? And the artists priced out of apts?) But rumors of its death are greatly exaggerated.
2) Kiddo is making drawings to order for friends. Printing on a little sticker printer. She’s good at this!
3) Most grades for my portion of the quarter’s assignments are loaded!
