I'm one of the point-people for Track Set-up in my #RollerDerby league.

I also, as it turns out, have a more severe texture aversion to chalk dust than I hitherto realized, going by how hard it was to convince myself to TOUCH the track set-up bag which is coated in the stuff, so that I could empty it out and wash it it preparatory to mending it

This is an extremely inconvenient combination of personality trait + leadership role.

Le roller derby est un sport inclusif, mais on ne va pas se mentir : le coût de départ peut être un frein selon ta situation (130 € d’adhésion et environ 150 € pour un pack débutant).
On aimerait pourtant que tout le monde puisse commencer, quelles que soient ses ressources. C’est pourquoi on met en place des politiques solidaires (aides financières, prêt de matos, ect)

So, the Roller Derby World Cup happened from 3-6 July in Innsbruck, Austria. Our hosts Fearless Bruisers Innsbruck were extremely hard working, and from the 1st to the 7th (including set up + teardown time) we worked with 6 THOs, 2 THAs, 2 THPs and three GTOs (and 9 officiating crews, dozens of announcers and photographers, and a host of volunteers, along with our streaming tech friends at Real-Time Events) to make the world's largest Roller Derby event in history happen.

Despite this record-breaking scale over 5 tracks and 80 games, each of our 48 teams only played 3⅓ games on average. In order to make it possible to effectively run the equivalent of a qualifier, "group stage" and elimination all in just 4 days - with 6 teams entirely new to Derby! - we needed to use a tiny bit of statistics.

The advantage of the stats is that we can present you with a considerably richer "final result" than most sporting events would - estimating not just final ratings but also our errors on those ratings.

Another absolute scorcher of a roller derby practice! Last week in the heat I made it one hour. Tonight was one hour and nine minutes.

last weekend i took home our pile of broken skates. so far i've fixed up 3 pairs (with 3d printed pivot cups and cushions) and decomissioned 5 torn boots and one cracked plate. still lots to do. #rollerderby
