English needs two versions of "we" and "us": one which includes me and you, and one which includes me and some other person/people, but not you.

Similarly, I wish "you" and "thou" were both still in common parlance. Funny how there's such a pushback about the singular "they" but not the singular "you."

English is a messy language. #disambiguation #english #pronouns

Was visiting earlier today with a friend and mentioned the #NoKings protests coming up. They were confused by the title, and I hypothesised that the name might have come from the #SchoolhouseRock US #history song.

My friend, having grown up far from any American TV signals, was utterly baffled by this reference.

What a joy to share with them (instead) the song that EVERY #trans person should know! 😀❤️

Ok but Funk dictio, how doth one use 'thon' elsewise??

They, them, their: They gave them their sleeve.
Vey, vem, ver: Vey gave vem ver sleeve.
Thon, ?, ?: Thon gave thon thon's sleeve, mayhaps?

En español, Spanish: aquí, allí, allá.
日本語に, Japanese: この [ko no]、その [so no]、あの [a no].
In l'anglaise, English: here, there, thon [that yonder].

"How may I address you?" Just a great phrase and intent all-around. Good clear communication and obvious demonstration of intent (unless espionage or subterfuge, but unlikely for most).

www.merriam-webster.comThe History of 'Thon', the Forgotten Gender-Neutral PronounWe added a gender-neutral pronoun in 1934. Why have so few people heard of it?

This is your friendly reminder, it takes no effort to respect someone's pronouns. Plus if you take the extra second to do so, you may be creating the highlight of their day. I say this as someone who puts my pronouns in my email signature and make it known politely, but choose not to complain when it is ignored... but you better believe when I see someone respect it, makes my day a little brighter! (And may get your brownie points of getting your request prioritized over others in my work day)

This might be the best place to ask this question: Should *I* put my pronouns on my various socials?

I'm a cis-het vanilla middle-aged male. It's great that so many platforms support the display of pronouns for those who want/need them. Are there any benefits to me, or to the community for me to add them to my profile?
