These cold beverages are refreshing and are worth trying if you're at a Mexican restaurant or (sometimes) grocery store. I'm currently experimenting with a traditional flavor: "agua fresca de pepino" (cool water of cucumber), and I was reminded of this old photo from Veracruz, Mexico, in 1984.

Sociedad NoticiasOpinión | Jorge Santa Cruz | Teatralidad letalEl 20 de noviembre de 1982, el entonces presidente de los Estados Unidos, Ronald Reagan, dijo lo siguiente sobre el proteccionismo comercial: “Debemos resistir el proteccionismo porque solo puede llevar a menos empleos para ellos y para nosotros”.Por Jorge Santa Cruz                                   ¿Por qué? Porque el proteccionismo encarece los precios de los bienes y servicios para los pueblos de los países cuyas economías están sometidas a guerras arancelarias.Lo anterior viene a cuento porque el actual presidente de los Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, amenazó con imponer aranceles secundarios del 100 por ciento a los países que comercien con Rusia.Dijo que lo hará si el presidente ruso, Vladimir Putin, no acepta un acuerdo de paz con Ucrania antes de 50 días.El vicepresidente del Consejo de Seguridad de Rusia y expresidente de ese país, Dmitri Medvédev, aseguró que a Moscú no le importa este «ultimátum teatral» de Trump.Lin Jian, vocero del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores de China, dijo por su parte, que en las guerras arancelarias nunca hay ganadores, y que el conflicto bélico entre Rusia y Ucrania debe resolverse con diálogo y negociación.Los gobiernos de Estados Unidos, Rusia y China tienen razón… en parte.Trump está en lo correcto cuando afirma que debe cesar la guerra en Ucrania; pero Putin no coincide con su propuesta.Medvédev, hombre de paja de Putin, también lo está cuando califica de «teatral» el procedimiento de Trump; sin embargo, demuestra un profundo desprecio por las vidas de los ucranianos inocentes.Jian, portavoz indirecto de Xi Jinping, está en lo correcto cuando critica el proteccionismo de Trump; oculta, sin embargo, el régimen de esclavitud al que el Partido Comunista Chino tiene sometida a la mayoría de los obreros de su país.¿Cómo interpretar todo eso? Quien escribe lo hace de la siguiente manera:<ol><li>Trump, en efecto, es teatral; solo que Putin y Xi también lo son.</li><li>La teatralidad política tiene la función de impresionar a los pueblos, ya que fomenta en ellos el maniqueísmo, esto es, la idea simplista de que hay buenos absolutos y malos absolutos.</li><li>Trump es un teatral errático que pone en riesgo a diversos pueblos del orbe, más que a sus respectivos dirigentes políticos. Son los pueblos los que sufren la carestía, el desempleo, la pobreza, las enfermedades y el aumento de la criminalidad.</li><li>Estados Unidos es todavía la potencia económica más fuerte del mundo; pero su deuda y su creciente déficit fiscal amenazan seriamente ese liderazgo.</li><li>Putin es otro político teatral que oculta a su pueblo la debilidad intrínseca de la economía rusa que es, apenas, un poco más grande que la de México.</li><li>Xi también es teatral: defiende el libre mercado cuando la economía china basa su poderío en la complicidad con las grandes trasnacionales occidentales y en la esclavitud.</li><li>Trump legitima a Putin y Xi; y estos, a Trump. Para ellos es un juego de ganar-ganar.</li></ol>Queda claro, además, que el ilegítimo presidente de Ucrania, Volodimir Zelenseki (quien gusta de la teatralidad política como los antes mencionados) es más poderoso que Trump, Putin y Xi. Como bien lo señala Adrián Salbuchi: nadie ha podido quitarle el poder. ¿Cuántos ucranianos y rusos han muerto por culpa de Zelenski y de Putin?De manera paralela, el gobierno israelí de Benjamín Netanyahu continúa con la limpieza étnica y el genocidio en Gaza, mientras que el mundo está distraido con la errática guerra arancelaria de Trump.
