Low-fantasy D&D aliens?

@rpg

I want to stick aliens 👽🛸 into my next D&D campaign. My idea is to have little grey men show up in a flying saucer and abduct the party. However, I'm worried that this is too comprehensible for the average #DnD character. I want the PCs to be confused, but not the players! What's the weirdest alien you've ever thrown at your D&D party?

Side note, I also want to give the baddies #mechs. How do I mechanically handle this?

The current mech of our player with the callsign "Sunset Blue".

This mech is "Courier New", as their naming convention for mechs is to use monospace font names. It's primarily for hacking, and thanks to its Minotaur nature, it's got a nifty extradimensional amount of space inside.

One of our players has the callsign "Gator", so I thought I'd scour Retrograde for a mech that matched the name. Added in the dirt elements myself, as the player has a talent that lets them burrow through the ground every combat, creating a tunnel which they usually emerge out of before grappling an enemy. Pretty gator-y stuff.

This actually made it into Retrograde's Chop Shop in the 2025-05-15 update of the mech garage.

Should probably post the mech sprites I coloured for our LANCER campaign here.

The sprites are made using a hodgepodge of assets from Retrograde Minis, but Retrograde's colouring system leaves a LOT to be desired, so I colour them manually in CSP.

Below are the mechs my character has piloted so far. The Suffice and The Vessel. Did a little kitbashing by having my character peek out of Vessel to sell its 1/2 size.
