Also, Sapphic from Sappho, right?
So Wildeic / Wiledic from Oscar Wilde, for androphilic. andric?
Ah whatever. mlem.
It's been a while since I wrote an #introduction for folks who are #NewHere.
I'm a #queer #Catholic computational #linguist who works on #NaturalLanguageGeneration and lives in #Scotland. An #immigrant multiple times over, I was born in #SouthAfrica, grew up in the USA (in #Florida), did my PhD in #Germany, and moved here in 2019. I enjoy #VideoGames, #VideoEssays, #OpenMic nights, and #running. I happen to be #nonbinary and love #languages.
Hey, #Glasgow residents, help out a #linguist and earn some money for science! (Boosts appreciated!).
Scottish-English speakers are needed for an in-person experiment using eye-tracking.
(If you're from elsewhere in Scotland but just in town for the day, that's ok too!)
-£20 for 1-1.5 hour experiment
-on Glasgow University campus

I'm a #Linguist with research on Taiwanese (臺灣本土語言) language vitality and revitalisation. My broader interests include language policy and language management within multilingual contexts.
I speak a few #languages (listed in my profile), and trying to relearn my personal #HeritageLanguage (s) which I lost as I grew up.
Would love to connect with others who are involved with similar interests.

Does anyone know when appending "in bed" to create innuendo... arose?
I'm working on a novel set in 1969 and trying to decide if I can have a character say that.
Hi folks, this is my official #introduction!

#introduction
Okay, so we are doing #introductions.
I am Christopher, a #linguist. I can’t help thinking about language(s) and will share some of my thoughts here. Of all the shapes language takes, #letters are one of my favourites, especially #typography. I hope to find more time to write about that.
My main #languages are English, Dutch, German and a bit of French – but feel free to get in touch in any of the languages listed in my profile. Or try any other language and let’s see how it works

@jordyd@octodon.social @nonphatic *puts on #linguist hat* That's Object-Subject-Verb word order, and it's relatively rare in natural language. The World Atlas of Language Structures only lists four languages with strong OSV word order.

Explaining the fandom meanings of "discourse," "problematic," and "toxic" to my #linguist dad. I've missed this.
@tux_kate @phildini @rhiannonrevolts I like schemata too. #linguist
