Ughhh, I don't think there's going to be enough time left in the day for me to finish #writing my next #fanfic chapter to my usual standard. >_< Too many friends and family to see! I guess I'll have to hold this one over to next weekend. Sorry, Reforged readers!

I enjoy Rule 63 fanfic as much as the next person, but it's an instant "nope!" if the character in question has their name changed to something exotic. That's a Mary-Sue alert.

If I'm reading about a female Harry Potter, I'd expect her to have just as mundane a name as "Harry", whether that be "Harriet", "Holly", "Jamie", or "Henrietta". You give her a name like "Hadrian", "Honoria", or "Hephzibah" and I will give you the side-eye.
This one was "Kahlen". I mean, what? Is that even a name?

Well, I've joined up with some friends to do an August Writing Month #challenge! 50,000 words for me, and 31 days to do it in. And I'm hoping to NOT count any of the words written for #fanfic. (Yes, I write original stories, a minimum of one of which is published; no, I will never connect them to my fanfic identity. That way lies being sued all the way to hell by nintendo.)

Yep. Ardil's nuts. You probably knew that already.

Anyway! Tomorrow is #writing go time! I'll try and toot my progress!

I'm L.J., and I wrote #fanfic for a couple of decades before I turned to #historicalFiction and #queerFiction. I talked a little about my fanfic-writing journey in this post. ljwrites.blog/posts/fanfic-wri My blog also has my historical non-fiction essays, such as my big essay on records of homosexuality in premodern Korea. ljwrites.blog/posts/queer-prem

I have a couple of short historical fiction stories up on my AO3 along with older fanfic: The Dream of the God's Wife about the 18th Dynasty pharaoh Hatshepsut and her family archiveofourown.org/works/7462 and Les marguerites fleuriront ce soir about WWII spy Virginia Hall. archiveofourown.org/works/7544 I also have up a Pride & Prejudice Elizabeth/Charlotte one-shot that I like <3 archiveofourown.org/works/4145

I published another historical short story with the Lesbian Historic Motif Podcast about an 18th-century Korean lesbian palace worker, called A Very Long Malaise. lesbianhistoricmotif.podbean.c You can check out my other online works on my About page. ljwrit.es
