The Fairy who danced with the Moon

C'était l'heure où les humains s'endorment et où les chouettes s'éveillent. L'heure où les villes s'assoupissent dans leur édredon de lumière. L'heure des rêves et des cauchemars qui se glissent dans les lits – et des monstres qui se glissent dessous – ; l'heure où le marchand de sable parsème le ciel de constellations étincelantes, sièges de tant de desseins. L'heure où le soleil a plongé sa grosse tête flamboyante de l'autre côté du globe et où l'heure bleue s'est coulée en encre de Chine. L'heure des sauvages qui galopent sur l'échine du monde. Partout, des yeux luisaient, des museaux fouissaient, des chants mystérieux fusaient.

Ce soir là, une fée décoiffée avait regardé le gros œil de la lune s'embuer de nuées couleurs chamallow. Le jour s'était éteint, le rose s'était fané, et la nuit, immense, avait étreint bois et campagne. Et l'œil s'était éclairé. Une prunelle lumineuse, curieuse, qui couvait le paysage d'un regard nacré.
« … Pourrais-je un jour voler jusque là-haut ? Rejoindre ce ballon suspendu, en ce lieu si léger, loin de la gravité du monde... et pourtant si proche, juste là, posté à porté de songes ? »

Toute la nuit, la fée fila à travers l'insondable ; silhouette féminine, discrétion féline, froufrou flottant en ligne de fuite. Simple froissement, frêle fêlure dans l'espace sans fin. C'était presque le petit matin, lorsque je l'aperçus à travers la fenêtre. Un mirage. Songe suspendu, dansant, qui, vu d'ici, touchait au but.

In some Welsh legends, the little fairies eat poisonous mushrooms and a "fairy butter" found in the crevices of limestone rocks. Fey illusions make the food's appearance and taste more appetizing. More charmingly, fairy gloves are made from foxglove flowers.

In Welsh folklore, King Rhitta was a giant who fashioned a huge cloak out of the beards of all the kings he conquered. When King Arthur received a message from King Rhitta demanding Arthur's beard to patch the cloak, Arthur dueled the giant and forced Rhitta to shave his own beard.

In Welsh folklore, when King Arthur attacked the first sister of the giant Cribwr, he said his name was "Hot Porridge." When the giantess screamed that she needed help with Hot Porridge, her brother called back from another room that she should just let it cool.

#FolkloreThursday: `#Fairies were not evil. However, they were amoral, not tied to the moral and ethical demands of humanity. They were merely playful troublemakers rather than devilish opponents. They commonly tried to lead travelers astray. This was a minor inconvenience and could be quite frightening, but even without protection, the #fairy eventually grew bored with the trick and released the ensnared human.
More seriously, the fairies attempted to lure useful or attractive people into the #Otherworld, to do their bidding until released.`

Every May 1 until Judgement Day, the Welsh hero Gwythyr battles Gwyn ap Nudd (king of the dead) for Creiddylad (Gwythyr's kidnapped fiancée). As May 1 is the first day of the Celtic summer, many scholars interpret this as a conflict between summer and winter.
