Kathleen Jones 🚲 🐋 🖌️⚾️<p>I played along the Great Highway today. Lots of people out there this sunny and breezy midweek midafternoon. More art in process on the road surface. Saw the octopus. Begged at the giraffes. And this old broad rode the bike ramps on my decidedly uncool Tern NBD. I had such a great time. <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cycling</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/TernNBD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TernNBD</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/GreatHighwayPark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GreatHighwayPark</span></a></p>

It was fun to just play around in the woods and not worry about setting any records or keeping up with anyone else. kimu<p>Wasn’t sure if I could manage day 3 of <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/30DaysOfBiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>30DaysOfBiking</span></a> due to thunderstorms, but seized the moment when it stopped raining for a fast ride during lunchtime. Quickly biked to a great bakery downtown, a place we’d never visited before we started biking because driving downtown is awful &amp; it’s a bit too far for a casual walk. Traffic was really light today bc most schools are closed due to weather &amp; flash flood warnings. <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a></p>
Peter Christensen<p>To my fellow Canadian cycle enthusiasts, if you're in the market for some new cycling kit, check out 7mesh.com. A Canadian company (BC) that makes a variety of what seem like pretty nice cycling clothes for roadies and mountain bikers. Partner and I ordered a few things and they just came in the mail. We haven't actually ridden in them yet, but they fit well and seem like pretty good quality.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/BuyCanadian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BuyCanadian</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cycling</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/BABA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BABA</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Canada</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Canadian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Canadian</span></a></p>
Marty Cormack<p><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/30DaysOfBiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>30DaysOfBiking</span></a> Day 3:<br>So far all my April rides have been utilitarian, replacing what otherwise would have been car trips. But I am hoping we soon get weather conducive to recreational or adventure rides. Today is cold, cloudy and windy, and if it weren't for the debris on the trails from the bursting tree buds and blossoms, you'd be led to believe it is a November day. But there are other signs of spring: Yesterday I saw a Great Blue Heron and some Grouse along the trail.<br><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a></p>
Adrianna Tan<p>I just posted this at work and it seems like not everyone knows this. </p><p>You can take the Amtrak Coast Starlight from Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose or LA in the other direction, to the Monterey Bay aquarium. On Amtrak.com, simply put Monterey Bay Aquarium as your destination and when you arrive in Salinas station at 12:20pm (daily), there will be a bus that waits for you and picks you up to send you to the doors of the Aquarium by 1:30pm (usually takes just 20min)</p><p>For a true car-free experience, book a hotel room in New Monterey near the Aquarium, like the Clement Intercontinental, Monterey Plaza, or Wave Street Inn or anything on that side of the tunnel (including Pacific Grove). You can walk / bike the coastal trail. </p><p>Rent a bike from Work Horse bicycles downtown. </p><p>If you bring your own bike on the train (check in without boxing!) you can put it on MST city bus no 20, the bus station is 5 min ride away. Wait at and have a taco at Tacos Don Beto next door. There is a small outdoor area for Covid cautious folks. </p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Transit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Transit</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Trains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trains</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Amtrak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Amtrak</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Monterey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Monterey</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a></p>

JustG<p>Cities need to plan bike shops into their urban planning like car rental locations and car-share companies. Bike shops should become community-focused transit hubs. Hubs for products, hubs for repair support, hubs for information and expertise focused on living without a car. Sure folks are gunna want their $13,000 downhill e-bikes and carbon road riders. But there’s huge potential for bike shops to shift their business models and offerings <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/ottbike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ottbike</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/biketooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>biketooter</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>canada</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/cdnpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdnpoli</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/ontario" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ontario</span></a></p>
JustG<p>I’ve been thinking on this for a long time and given what is going to happen to the bike industry in the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/usa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>usa</span></a> there needs to be a grassroots reimagining of the bike industry. Canada needs to onshore regular and cargo bike manufacturing. The bike industry is collectively on aggregate focused on sport, selling new models like their iPhones. The bike industry needs to become part of the “transportation” industry <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/ottawa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ottawa</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/ottbike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ottbike</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/biketooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>biketooter</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/cdnpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdnpoli</span></a></p>
