I’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews so let’s dive in!
👍It was easy to read, and I like the premise of a dystopian romance. Cross is your typical tattooed grump book boyfriend. I think the author did a good job blurring the lines of which “side” is right. I wouldn’t call the ending a cliffhanger, more just intriguing to see where the battle goes next.

👎I definitely wanted to punch the FMC at times. Also, this is petty, but I am deducting points for silver blood a la Red Queen. Pick. Any. Other. Color.
I called the “twist” super early bc the book definitely follows the formula.

👍 I can’t believe this is an indie author! I liked this book more than some trad pub books I’ve read lately. The world build was unique and I liked how the relationship between the MCs developed. I really liked the magic system, I can’t wait to see more of it in the conclusion!

👎 DNF. I thought I would get a revenge story but it wound up being a weird Jane Eyre sequel. I made it 55% in with no vigilante revenge 😔 Maybe I’ll come back to it later, but my tbr is too long to keep at this one.

👍 Well, hot girl summer is off to a great start with this one! The wordplay and girl power feminist vibes!!! I loved this book and the whodunnit mystery of who framed the golden girls! It was amazing and so well-written. Also, the reflection of how women, especially once they are past the “attractive” youth, are perceived and treated in society. I hope to age with that grace.

📚 “Do you think I don’t know what kind of men this world has wrought? Every woman knows, and those men existed before the world fell apart.”

👍An interesting Little Red Riding Hood retelling with dystopian elements! The pandemic took an interesting turn. I can’t believe this book came out in 2019. If only the author had known 😂😂 I did want a little more at the end but other than that, a surprisingly good read!

📚 “She refused for her story to end with some man choosing her fate.”

👍 Kicking off July with some outdoor reading and a great sequel! I had forgotten how much I loved this world. This book mostly followed the formula of first book with the glamor, heist, spice, slight love triangle, etc. However, we do get character growth, the stakes get upped, and there are some real consequences at the end. I can’t wait for book three!
