Mountain Mindset<p>A few mountain scenes explored recently around Alpental, WA. Been trying to find more about the geology of this area, I heard a while back these peaks were once the top of a massive volcano mountain that sank becoming very steep and wild low elevation terrain. Washington apparently had 25 super volcanos that have come and gone but identifying the details has been challenging. I have been trying to find some good geology resources for Washington if you happen to know of any? </p><p><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/mountains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mountains</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>geology</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/freeride" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>freeride</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/bigmountain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bigmountain</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/snowboarding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>snowboarding</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/skiing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>skiing</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/powder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>powder</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/backcountry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backcountry</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/washington" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>washington</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/cascades" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cascades</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/cascadia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cascadia</span></a></p>
JeffLate summer in Katmai National Park. <br> During this time in early September, the tundra comes alive with a psychedelic wave of color. Everywhere you look you are surrounded by undulating layers of reds, oranges, yellow and green. <br> <br> Most of these small plants grow berries, and in this shot there are over 10 species of berries that I can see. <br> <br> We were camped here for a week and got absolutely pounded by rain and wind, and on our last day it opened up and we went exploring. Hiking up that snow kissed peak in the background and then we dropped down through miles of tundra to a double waterfall that we had spotted on our flight in. Such a beautiful place, can’t wait to go back.<br> <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/tundra?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#tundra</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/mountains?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#mountains</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/berries?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#berries</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/fallcolors?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#fallcolors</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/katmai?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#katmai</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/alaska?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#alaska</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/hiking?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#hiking</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/nature?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#nature</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/naturesbounty?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#naturesbounty</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/autumn?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#autumn</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/alaska?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#alaska</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/backcountry?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#backcountry</a>
Robot Diver<p>My friend sent me this today from an amazing snowshoe camping trip we took in 2016. </p><p>MECFS has altered my life in such a massive way that I'm sometimes at a loss for words. I would have easily hiked 80-100km in a weekend in spite of some heavy fibromyalgia symptoms back then. Now I'm happy when i can make it around the block.</p><p>That being said, I'm not the only one. I have another friend in this photo with a degenerative disorder, and I was worried my hiking buddies would disappear when i got sick and came out as trans. But they are still here and I know how rare that is. </p><p>I miss the alpine, I miss the plants, I miss the peace and the beautiful reset it gave my audhd each time, i miss the bonding with my friends, but this photo reminds me that you have to love each moment to its fullest because you never know what's right around the corner and I'm so glad I did.</p><p><a href="https://starlite.rodeo/tags/mecfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mecfs</span></a> <a href="https://starlite.rodeo/tags/longCovid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>longCovid</span></a> <a href="https://starlite.rodeo/tags/alpine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>alpine</span></a> <a href="https://starlite.rodeo/tags/backcountry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backcountry</span></a> <a href="https://starlite.rodeo/tags/hiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hiking</span></a></p>
Mountain Mindset<p>Here is a creative writing draft inspired from a recent photo trip; 5 parts: </p><p>Imagine for a moment that your older self could meet your younger self. And if your older self recognized that your younger self didn’t recognize you, what would you want them to know? When I thought of this question I realized this holds the answer to my story and finding out where I might go. Thus my journey begins with a creative story, a young man meeting a wise old man. The young man asks the old man to teach him how he learned to live in these mountains. So the old man sends the young on a series of quests, each one teaching a valuable life lesson for him at that time. Which makes me wonder where would I want to send myself? Now the adventure starts! Beginning on a warm spring day, noticing my overnight pack, the wise old man said to me “Why don’t you go ski around the mountain?” Continuing...1/5</p><p><a href="https://mountains.social/tags/mountains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mountains</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/adventure" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>adventure</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/storytelling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>storytelling</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/shortstory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>shortstory</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/skiing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>skiing</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/creativewriting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>creativewriting</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/backcountry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backcountry</span></a> <a href="https://mountains.social/tags/oregon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oregon</span></a></p>
Pete Gent<p>Finally, a word about general backcountry connectivity, always carry a PLB with you. While I’ve spent a reasonable amount of $ paying Garmin for their inReach services myself, PLBs and the related COSPAS infrastructure has been built from the ground up to be a protected service and work robustly.
