Taken as a whole, his tariffs represent a dramatic expansion from the more narrowly targeted duties he imposed in his first term—some of which the Biden Admin retained—& a final nail in the coffin for the open #trading environment that reigned before 2016.

#EU retaliates against #Trump’s #tariffs as #TradeWar escalates

The #EuropeanUnion hit back Wed at Trump’s #steel & #aluminum tariffs w/its own levies, announcing tariffs on billions of dollars’ worth of products, including bourbon & motorcycles, while warning of further retaliation.

The 27-nation bloc said its 2-stage response would target ~$28B in US exports. The announcement of the European measures came at the same time Trump’s tariffs took effect.
