#writephant #selfpromo okay I wrote up a nice couple of posts about my stuff a while back, and honestly digging them up seems like less work than writing them out again. if I find them I'll bookmark them as well, as a favor to Future Me... ah, found it! (reposting in replies to this)

#Writephant 5. What is one random act of kindness that you will do for yourself this week?

I dunno, I don't usually plan things out like that tbh. I'll be volunteering at the zoo tomorrow morning, which should be nice; I got myself some nice chunky yarn today; I'm thinking about getting Fancy Breakfast (it's a whole thing) later this week, maybe Thursday. I just try to be generally kind to myself these days. :]

I will figure it out. Usually I'm kind to myself by getting a veggie burger from my usual place. But may just take a few hours this weekend to lie in bed and knit while listening to Tale Foundry on YouTube.

@troodon Hadestown is probably my favorite tragedy currently because of the music and pathos. (It's a retelling of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice on Broadway.) What motivates me to keep watching is the hope that we can make the world better despite overwhelming odds and hard times. That and hoping Orpheus will make a different decision once.

#Writephant A4. Random acts of kindness focus on doing little things that can brighten someone else's day or have a ripple affect. In your writing, what is the kindest thing a character has done?

in my current WIP: spared the life of an opponent whose death is otherwise specified by the narrative. the rest of the story is about the former villain having to face and try to make up for the results of his villainy.

In a WIP, I have a tormented clown toy rescuing a little wooden toy from what would be a dangerous and stupid decision and giving them a place to live. (It makes sense in context.)

A4. Random acts of kindness focus on doing little things that can brighten someone else's day or have a ripple affect. In your writing, what is the kindest thing a character has done?

In my books, the main characters are always doing tiny, kind things for each other without being asked. It helps show that they’re a found family!

#Writephant A3 The sin of empathy... How would your characters respond if facing this belief?

disdain at best, fury and horror at worst, especially if they encountered that belief being put into practice.

#Writephant A2. Not all works of fiction are kind. Some are tragedies while others focus on the horror and terror within an impossible situation... Do you believe even the cruelest stories are rooted in the principle of kindness's presence or absence?

enh... this is not something I have an opinion about, as I tend to avoid such stories. I find stories where people practice empathy and kindness despite "impossible situations" much more interesting.
