Book two will begin with a short journey by sea. No space. What kind?"

We have all three at Ats'van: ocean, air, and space.

On the ocean, rather than commercial freight or cruise ships the primary boat is the sailboat. These are elaborate displays of craft, often old and handmade, highly prized and constantly won and lost by the outcome of Superheavy Exo duels and 50km-pitch Tethyne Polo matches.

Ultralight and lighter-than-air craft ply the sky, the five-kilometer deep blanket of air wrapped tightly against Ats'van's cylindrical hull. Being a 100k-class Centraframe, Ats'van is large enough for a huge open dock at the spaceward end of the cylinder, allowing starships to simply slip within.

#MaidenHeretic #C8y #AmWriting #SciFi #Mecha

Bern
WordWeavers for 5th August, 2025

5. What emotions do you expect your readers to feel while reading the first chapter of your story?

The prologue is dark – though not graphically so. Such things happen when demons are around. I would expect readers to feel uneasy, both at what the antagonists are doing and what they are planning to do.
The first chapter proper, I would hope would evoke feelings of comfort and familiarity. This is the third book with this MC (fourth if you count the origin story novella), so I’d hope readers would have read the previous installments and be keen to hear more about the MC’s life, especially after the denouement of the previous book.
#WordWeavers

Where did you go and why?

Interesting! I was intending to answer this using Merriam-Webster's first sense, "an act or instance of traveling," but I see most people are taking it in the second sense: "a course or period of traveling by other than land routes. So okay:

MC: No, never. I've traveled all over the Polity for work, but someone like me wouldn't be approved for overseas travel.

It was very exciting, but I don't like sailing either.

Where did you go and why?

Becca, romance WIP: Sadly, no. Between limits on money and being generally kind of a chicken, I've stayed close to home. Maybe now is my moment though, now that my daughter is starting her independent adult life and it's just me.

Where did you go and why?

Fuu: I've never left my hometown before I was whisked away to Equestria. And even here I was fine staying in Ponyville, but Trixie forced us to go to Los Pegasus directly following Nightmare Night. I'm pretty sedentary, but if Trixie's upcoming performance goes awry we might be out on the road once again. (I wish Equestria had antacids. I've got such an acid stomach from worrying over this...)

Where did you go and why?

Pearl: Ah, yeah, multiple times actually. In my past life I used to travel between states every so often. Then I got forced into Equestria, and now I've travelled from the Hive near Hollow Shades to my clutchsister's home in Hoofton, via Canterlot. Oh, and recently I've also visited Baltimare because of Palina's parents. And Pinkie Pie invited me to celebrate my birthday in Ponyville in half a year's time.

Where did you go and why?

The sole voyage that Alia has taken is the one from a small drought-stricken village in Iran to Sequoia, a brand-new city built in the Arctic circle for climate refugees. She had to first get on a rickety old bus to reach the port of Bushehr, then on a small trawler to Dubai from where she got on a massive ship to get to Skibotn in Norway (via the Suez canal). The last leg was on train.
