#WPA11yMeetup is starting in 10 minutes! Join us for Accessible Firebrand: “Why can’t I use my brand color there, and if not there, then where?” with Deneb Pulsipher & Mark Alvis #WordPress #a11y #accessibility us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regist

ZoomWelcome! You are invited to join a webinar: WordPress Accessibility Meetup: Accessible Firebrand: “Why can’t I use my brand color there, and if not there, then where?”: Deneb Pulsipher & Mark Alvis. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.Every company is strongly invested in their brand colors, even when these don’t meet contrast ratio requirements against their site’s background color. From an accessibility specialist’s perspective, it’s essential to know where these colors cannot be used, but from a designer’s practical and aesthetic perspective, it’s important to know where and how they can safely be used to build brand identity. In this session, you’ll learn how and why companies are often inclined to use their brand colors in inaccessible ways. Together, we’ll examine real-world uses of brand colors in places that are clear and not-so-clear violations of the WCAG and other accessibility principles. We’ll discuss ways to demonstrate the problem to the company decision-makers, including tools that can help illustrate the problem. We’ll suggest arguments to use to persuade decision-makers to change their tactics. Perhaps most importantly, we’ll go over how companies can engagingly use their brand colors on their site in ways that don’t violate accessibility principles. This will make it so that decision-makers don’t balk as much at abandoning their inaccessible uses. This meetup will be live-captioned. Thanks to our sponsors, Kinsta and Equalize Digital Accessibility Checker.

Last year I talked about why those in #WordPress have a responsibility to not bring new people in who risk the ire of Matt’s whims. Taco and Joost aren’t new to WordPress but this post of Taco’s talking about how they’ve been banned, does a great job of illustrating the danger of relying on a dying ecosystem for a living and why the “community” crowd around it can be so very dangerous. progressplanner.com/real-impac

Progress Planner · The Real Impact of a WordPress BanJoost de Valk and Progress Planner got banned from WordPress, and that's a big deal. And we shouldn’t allow ourselves to normalize it.

I wonder how realistic (as in convenient and usable) to run a Fediverse instance that's actually just a WordPress installation with the ActivityPub plugin.
Has anyone tried?

I understand that it may not be the best way to proceed (as WordPress wasn't designed for this) but it could bean easy way to introduce people like me (long time WordPress users but not tech people) to running their own Fediverse instances.

An update about #WordPress :

If you have a WP blog, people can follow your blog account and interact with your blog posts from Mastodon etc. More info at fedi.tips/wordpress-turning-yo

The latest version of WP's Fediverse support introduces migration of Mastodon posts onto WordPress blogs as WP posts. (See thread at mastodon.social/@pfefferle/114)

BUT unfortunately WP's largest developer's CEO has been behaving, um... unusually 😞 It's still unclear how this will resolve, it may be that a fork takes over.

Question, I really need your opinion:

I have red as my brand color (#E00000).

But I also have a more green/teal color as a contrast color, also on darkmode. My boyfriend says it clashes with the red color. And what do you think of the hover effect on the cards?
Personaly I really like the pink hover effect on the cards.
This is not finished yet. by the way.

Very exciting news about #Ghost, the blogging software I use for my website, beta testing their new social web integration! Activating it enables direct interaction with blogs on #Wordpress and soon #Tumblr, #Mastodon and the whole #Fediverse, as well as #BlueSky and #Threads according to their changelog:

As a self-hosting user I'll have to wait for a stable release but I am thrilled!

I really, really wish that people would stop using their age as the reason they can't deal with the #wordpress Block Editor! (Said the woman in her 8th decade.) 👵

C'mon! You learned to use your smart phone, nu? 📱 Sheesh!
