Is it me, or does Jiang Ziya look like Keanu Reeves? Thought I'd watch this film that I had been wanting to see for some time. I got a notification from BiliBili recommending it, so I added it to my watchlist and saw it in my downtime when I wasn't feeling well. I gotta say that Chinese 3D animation is pretty spectacular. A few years ago, I watched Nezha Reborn (2021) and was absolutely capitativated by the eye candy, lore, and character designs. Both films are unrelated in terms of production and cast, but they do share source material. When I watched Nezha Reborn, I thought it was a sequel to Nezha (2019), but it's not. They're simply characters from Ming dynasty era literature that have been adapted to several media. Investiture of the Gods is the name of the original novel.

Jiang Ziya, on the other hand, isn't exactly a sequel to Nezha, but it's allegedly the follow-up film from the production companies, the directors or writers aren't the same. It's about this immortal hero that manages to end a war with the fox demon clan that is destroying the 3 realms. He's outcast for not following an order and can't go back to heaven until he comes to terms with why he was exiled. He meets a girl who looks like a clue and risks leaving the boundary he was confined in to find answers. That's more or less the story. I quite enjoyed it and think my Chinese comprehension is getting better. They talked so fast, and I managed to understand a few things without rewinding to read the subtitles. I'd say that's progress. The style of the animation has that Disney/Pixar look that's been in vogue for decades, yet it encapsulates the beauty of Chinese culture and style very elegantly. I highly recommend it. #movierecommendation #moviereview

Check out the cult classic post-apocalyptic sci-fi film Tank Girl (1995)! 🚀 Starring Lori Petty, Naomi Watts & Ice-T, it’s a wild ride of rebellion against a water-controlling corporation in a drought-ravaged world. Feminist themes & iconic style make it a must-watch!

Am trying to consciously watch more films and documentaries, especially from a wider range of countries and genres.

Today was "Nine Days" - "In this Sundance Film Festival award-winner, a reclusive man conducts a series of interviews with five unborn souls to determine which will be given a chance at life on Earth. Starring Winston Duke, Zazie Beetz and Bill Skarsgard."

No spoilers, but this is one where I would buy my own copy. So good, especially the final scene. 👌

Let’s talk about Border. I’m obsessed with this film; I just keep thinking about it. I know it’s five years old, but I just watched it now because it was on Channel 4 (in the UK). It has such a profound effect on me—I don’t even want to say too much because if you haven’t seen it yet, anything I could say would be a spoiler. Have you seen it?
