Sky - Your Infernal MajestyIch weiß, lange Texte sind im Fediverse nicht bei allen beliebt. Manche betonen immer wieder, das sei doch kein „Microblogging“ mehr. Aber mal ehrlich: Seit wann ist das Fediverse eine reine Microblogging-Plattform? Ich kenne nicht alle Zugangssoftwares, aber soweit ich weiß, unterstützen zum Beispiel <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Sharkey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Sharkey</a>, <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Misskey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Misskey</a>, <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Catodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Catodon</a>, <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Iceshrimp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Iceshrimp</a> und auch <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Friendica" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Friendica</a> lange Texte ganz wunderbar. Auch meine eigene <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mastodon</a>-Instanz habe ich ordentlich aufgebohrt – mit ein paar tausend Zeichen, weil Mastodon ja leider immer noch an seinem 500-Zeichen-Limit festhält.Und bitte versteht mich nicht falsch: Das ist kein Bashing gegen Mastodon! Es geht mir eher darum, den Blick dafür zu öffnen, dass das Fediverse viel mehr ist als nur ein Ort für Kurztexte. Es ist vielfältig, offen – ein Raum für alle möglichen Ausdrucksformen. Und dazu gehören eben auch längere Gedanken.Neulich habe ich sogar gelesen, dass jemand alle Accounts blocken will, die lange Texte posten. Das hat mich echt irritiert. Warum diese Abwehr gegen Tiefe und Details? Ich persönlich liebe längere Texte – beim Schreiben ebenso wie beim Lesen. Sie geben mir die Möglichkeit, wirklich in Themen einzutauchen, mich auszudrücken, zu erzählen. Das <a href="https://fedimonster.de/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Fediverse</a> lebt doch gerade von dieser Vielfalt, oder? Lasst uns das feiern – in 500 Zeichen oder in 5.000. 💛

Ihr könnt Zitieren, in dem ihr > und gleich darauf den Zitierten text in eine neue Zeile schreibt. Ist nur auch doof, weil ihr ja nur 500 zeichen habt. If more folks did read their terms of services, you would know word-based domain name extensions are not managed the same way as normal with the protection of ICANN. David B. HimselfSo, I'm back at "where should I move this account?" I thought Akkomane was the answer, unfortunately, it was not. There wasn't any one deal breaker, but a few tiny ones that added up. Namely: it doesn't work with Bridgy Fed, Thumbnails didn't appear when I shared links for some reason, and also it doesn't seem to be able to communicate with Wordpress sites that have the ActivityPub plugin. So, I'm back to square one. As a reminder: I want to leave Firefish for two reasons: 1. It's dead. While it's still working great, it will not receive anymore updates ever. 2. Its API doesn't work with many apps (I'd love to be able to use this account with Surf or OpenVibe and such, and I can't) Part of me thinks about merging this account with my Mastodon account, but I don't know. I like having two accounts talking roughly about different things (even if the limit is somewhat porous). Another Mastodon account? I'd like to have this account not on Mastodon, basically. Misskey and forks? (Firefish being one.) Maybe, but after having used Firefish for about two years, I think those are great if you're a community on the same server (i.e. most people on the same server know and follow each other), otherwise, there are too many functions I end up never using. Also, the problem with the API is the same as with Firefish, I believe. The new IceShrimp (the dot NET one): I'd love to try it, but it's still in beta (anyone knows of a server where I can see what it looks like?) Something else? GoToSocial? I admit I'm not too familiar with it. Is there a way to try it without having to install everything on a server and such? What I'd like is something that allows long posts like this one (I can be talkative and threads of posts are annoying). Something using Mastodon API so that it is compatible with most apps. Ich habe keine Ahnung was und von wem du das gelesen hast. Denn such da stellt sich die Frage, wie kompetent sind diese Personen, die sich geÄußert haben. Wenn der Austausch wirklich ein Problem wäre, könnten wir uns beide nicht unterhalten. Es bleibt immer noch, DSS gleiche Protokoll. Wenn es Limitierungen gibt, kommen die von Mastodon, die Teile fremder Nachrichten wegwirft und den Mastodon Usern nicht anzeigt. Und klar gibt es auch Probleme beim austausch. Die liegen zu 90% aber auf Instanzebene, unabhängig der verwendeten Software. EmpeRohrLiebe Leute, ich habe ja einen Blick über den Tellerand geworfen und Friendica und Iceshrimp getestet. Ich nutze jetzt quasi ausschließlich Iceshrimp und lasse Mastodon links liegen. Das ist einfach so passiert. Falls dir diese neue Sicht auf das Fediverse gefällt, dann kannst du sogar deinen Mastodon Account dorthin <a href="https://contentnation.net/de/favstarmafia/artikel1#WECHSELN" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">umziehen</a>. Was musst du machen, um das mal auszuprobieren 1. Such dir eine Instanz aus, die dir gefallen könnte. 2. Lege dort einen Account an. 3. Exportiere (/settings/export) dein "Folge ich" Accounts in eine CSV Datei. 4. Importiere (/settings/import-export) die Datei in deinen neuen Account unter "Gefolgte Benutzer Import". 5. Alt-text is what's added directly to the image. It's what screen readers used by blind or visually-impaired people read out loud as they can't "read out loud" an image. It's what people see instead of the image if the image doesn't show for them (text-based client, too slow Internet connection, whatever). Alt-text should never convey more information than the image which it is a replacement for. An image description that goes into the post itself is not alt-text. I don't see any rule or part of the "Fediquette" or "Mastodon culture" that speaks against adding that additional information to a reply. Whether it works or not depends on whether your customers accept it or not. I guess that 99% of your aspiring customers in the Fediverse will be on Mastodon, only see your start post and not be bothered to check the replies. So my suggestion is to leave room in the original post for tellling your customers that prices can be found in a reply to that post. But seeing as this will happen to you a lot, it may be worth looking for someplace that offers you more than 500 characters: <ul><li>a Mastodon instance with a raised character limit</li><li>Pleroma (5,000 characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li><li>Akkoma (5,000 characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li><li>Misskey (3,000 characters, hard-coded; just steer clear of misskey.io)</li><li>the various forks of Misskey and forks of their forks like Iceshrimp or Sharkey (thousands of characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li></ul> If you need a five-digit character count, the best you can do requires basically re-learning the Fediverse, mastering a significantly steeper learning curve and very likely abandoning dedicated apps. Leute, habe ich eine Überraschung erlebt.Oder bin dran verzweifelt, je nach Sichtweise. Kurzum, da muss eine Menge runter. Aus Gründen.Irgendwann fing das Ganze damit an, dass ich (m)eine eigene Mastodon-Instanz haben wollte. Zuerst auf einem gemieteten VPS, dann in einer VM auf der heimischen NAS. Im Laufe der Zeit kamen weitere Dienste wie <a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=Friendica" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Friendica</a>, <a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=Pixelfed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Pixelfed</a>, <a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=Iceshrimp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Iceshrimp</a> etc. dazu.<a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=Castopod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Castopod</a> und <a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=Peertube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Peertube</a> lasse ich jetzt mal außen vor, da diese doch wesentlich andere Zwecke erfüllen als die klassischen Facebook-, X- und Instagram-Alternativen.Aktuell verwende ich hauptsächlich Friendica als Zugang zum Fediverse, lange Zeit war allerdings <a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mastodon</a> für mich der wichtigste Dienst. Leider musste ich dort nach jedem Update erneut die Zeichenbegrenzung von 500 auf 12345 erhöhen, da ich kaum etwas weniger mag als endlose Threads aus kleinen Häppchen eines langen Texts.Friendica erfüllt so ziemlich alle meine Ansprüche, mit entsprechenden Resourcen auch erfreulich schnell. Gut, ich kann an Umfragen nicht teilnehmen, aber die betroffenen Posts öffne ich dann halt in <a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=GoToSocial" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#GoToSocial</a>. Letzteres läuft auf einem kleinen VPS als Backup für den Fall, dass die Technik daheim ausfallen sollte oder Vodafone an der Leitung schraubt.Die aktuelle Planung schaut also wie folgt aus: • Friendica bleibt als Hauptinstanz, GoToSocial als externes Backup. • Castopod und Peertube laufen ebenfalls weiter, auch wenn der Podcast eher selten bespielt wird. • Alle drei (in Ziffern 3) Pixelfeds werden gelöscht, sobald ich einen Weg gefunden habe, die Posts und Bilder zu exportieren. Diese schiebe ich dann entweder per Script gesammelt nach Friendica oder integriere sie statisch in mein Blog. Hat vor Jahren schon mit Instagram funktioniert, auch wenn es einiges an Handarbeit war. Pixelfed als Service benötige ich eigentlich nicht mehr, die überschaubare Anzahl von Bildern pro Woche oder Monat passt auch in mein Friendica-Profil. • Mastodon behalte ich aus sentimentalen Gründen. Ich wüsste gerade nicht, was ich mit den knapp 17.000 Beiträgen sonst machen sollte. • Ersatzlos gestrichen werden also die Dienste, die nur aus Neugier installiert und praktisch nicht genutzt wurden: Iceshrimp, Glitch und Misskey.Am Rande sei noch <a href="https://freundica.de/search?tag=Bluesky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Bluesky</a> erwähnt.Ja, ich habe vor Wochen einen eigenen PDS aufgesetzt und per AddOn mit Friendica verbunden. Nach wie vor sind leider einige für mich wichtige Personen nicht im Fediverse zu finden, aber zumindest auf Bluesky zu lesen. Ich selbst bin dort nicht wirklich aktiv, ab und an setze ich bei neuen Friendica-Posts den Haken, um eine Kopie des Texts rüber zu schieben. Allerdings ist es recht praktisch, Posts von drüben in die lokale Timeline gespült zu bekommen.Den VPS, auf dem der PDS läuft, werde ich kündigen und das Geld in eine zweite Storage Box investieren. Offsite Backups sind wichtiger.Es werden also einige Ressourcen frei. Mal schauen, was ich damit anfangen kann. :smile:
