Just to be clear, here's what #DonaldJTrump actually wrote in the infamous TruthSocial post:
"I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately."
Not "I hereby authorize" in the present tense. There's supposedly a proper formal order. But it hasn't been sent out and is not in fact recorded.
Wait until another country spots this.

The #ExcelApocalypse hashtag is now here, for the U.S. government that conducts military operations from unsecured personal 'phones in Moscow, that puts a MAX() function on a spreadsheet that erroneously impacts a load of countries, and that forgets to send out the formal order backing off from its tariff war to the blanket 10%.
This is the White House executive orders list. It is up to date as of 2025-04-09. I watched them put all of yesterday's orders up last night, to check.

Yes, this is an "Oh crap!" moment.
In all of the fuss of TS posts and press conferences, #DonaldJTrump has forgotten to issue the actual tariff reduction order.
It is going to be cat amongst pigeons time when people read the #DonaldJTrump Truth Social post carefully and realize that it doesn't actually directly order the #tariffs of the 2025-04-02 order to be reduced to 10%, but says only that a change has been ordered somewhere else, an order that is not currently published and might not actually have been officially sent out.
Time to kick off the #ExcelApocalypse hashtag.

Can this officially published and recorded executive order be countermanded by an unofficial mere Truth Social post?
Because if it cannot, the higher #tariffs over the 10% rate are in fact still in effect. There has been no countermanding formal executive order and it is now just past 17:00 EDT.
It's worth remembering the @standupmaths calculations at this point.
The weighted mean tariff was 41%. With the blanket minimum still in place, as Reuters et al. say it is going to be, the mean tariff is now just over 10% (as China remains on a *much* higher rate and drives the mean up a little bit).
With the more realistic price pass-through of 0.94, that's still a roughly 10% consumer price rise over all imported goods in the U.S.A..

When @standupmaths put #DonaldJTrump's own figures into a spreadsheet, the U.A.E., Morocco, Egypt, Australia, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Turkey, Singapore, and the U.K. all turned out to be owed negative #tariffs rather than the +10% ones that they are having applied to their exports.
