It's truism that the media that have the longest future are the ones that have the attention of young people. So I'm curious, what are the demographics of the fediverse? What kind of a future might it have as a medium?

This is a totally unscientific poll, just to scratch that itch. If you're willing, please indicate your age range, and boost so the poll can get more responses.

🚀 A true honour to welcome Professor Dame Wendy Hall to WorldPop!

We had an inspiring and wide-ranging conversation on using AI and satellite imagery to fill global demographic data gaps 🌍 - plus insights into UK data sharing initiatives and the power of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Exciting times ahead as we work to make our demographic data more inclusive, accessible, and actionable. 💡🔬

🤼 To understand America today, study the zero-sum mindset, writes Stefanie Stantcheva

Young people and city-dwellers are among those most likely to see one group’s gain as another’s loss

(great insight into political psychology!)

#Demographics btw the working class / impoverished community that surrounds this members-only #shithole is a living illustration of voting against your economic interest. Real life is happening on the outside of the gate.

What would religion, work, sex or technology look like if we lived in a truly feminist world? In a perfect world would the messy stuff make the cut? Or would stuff that makes us human be left in the real world? Join two big thinkers who unpack it all as they build their own feminist utopia in this episode of Big Ideas. This was a live philosophy event presented in London at the Sophia Club, from the creators of Aeon and Psyche magazines. You can find out more about the series at sophiaclub.co.

When I have pinned blame on climate change on USian boomers as a generation, it is not simply ageism. It is lament of the fact that they have been in political power for a long time, and they aren't letting go of power. Under their lead, climate change has become the climate catastrophe and we have done little to nothing to avoid it.

The NYTimes just published a graphic that shows their grip on political power; the highest rate of increase on these graphs is in the last 10 years, when the oldest baby-boomers have become septuagenarians:

In this article they discuss how some researchers studying rural regions found that official estimates of population in these rural regions often vastly undercount, so that there could be 2 or 3x as many people in these regions as reported. Enough to make the global population estimates much more uncertain than they appear to be. #demography #demographics #population #statistics
