xanna<p>Watching Shrinking - US comedy-drama (does US TV make anything else any more?) with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.</p><p>As wrong and stupid about therapy as one might expect from a TV show, but sometimes resonant about trauma and mental illness in a way you don't often see.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/AmWatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmWatching</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/TVRecommendations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TVRecommendations</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/Shrinking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Shrinking</span></a></p>
Margaret Sefton<p>Maybe because I'm American and not English, I'm finding this a bit sad, but funny at the same time if that makes sense. Distance, loneliness, repression. Then again, the airlessness makes the lighter, more tender moments beautiful. I always love watching Nicola Walker, and Sean Bean is no slouch. 💜 <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/AmWatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmWatching</span></a></p>

Helen<p>I can see how it's divisive, and people do like to express an opinion about Lena Dunham - but I loved "Too Much" - messy and complicated in that way that "Girls" was, but so British, so "Paddington". As a Swiftie, I was all in for the Antonoff gossip and the references - those "paper cuts"...What does everyone else think?<a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/TooMuch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TooMuch</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Girls" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Girls</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Paddington" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Paddington</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/London" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>London</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/LenaDunham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LenaDunham</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/TV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TV</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/TVShows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TVShows</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AmWatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmWatching</span></a></p>

Margaret Sefton<p>Have you seen this? Creepy. Docuseries re: European Air BnB concept except free stays, relying on the humanity of strangers thus inviting well, you know, predatory behavior. It was excellent.</p><p>I started Night Moves (from the Gene Hackman collection) last night, will probably finish it tonight.</p><p>It's just... okay, so far but it's a fun time-travel into the 1970s (and tries to be noir, sorta). Margaret Sefton<p>Two of my favorite actors--Maria Bello and Holt McCallany are in the new Netflix series The Waterfront. I think I unintentionally skipped my mood stabilizer last night while taking pills and listening to the latest horrors on the news, so I'll be putting in some streaming time. I wish this is the first time Trump America has affected my mental health, but I intend to restore it. <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/AmWatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmWatching</span></a></p>

Feral Fire<p>Currently <a href="https://goblin.technology/tags/amwatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>amwatching</span></a> Jaws (1975) coz it's 50 years old...</p><p>Honestly, I've seen this film a lot, I can tell you the words or the beats but -- it is fantastic. Has it aged? Sure, a bit, there's no meaningful female roles, some of the language is "unguarded"</p><p>But as a spectacle, as a perfectly poised slowly unravelling adventure? This is perfect.</p>
Margaret Sefton<p><a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/AmWatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmWatching</span></a> The mother in this story about a British 1930s family of girls has the same concern my mother had for me in the deep South America of the1980s--for young ladies to be "serious" and marry. (There are also more global historic resonances for present day as well.) I started watching this series tonight. It is entertaining though it promises to be heavier mood-wise as it develops because of its setting in pre-world-war England. <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/MitfordSisters" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MitfordSisters</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/miniseries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>miniseries</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/JHQAYdLC0_w?si=oPtp4Sr5vtqUkaN9" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtu.be/JHQAYdLC0_w?si=oPtp4S</span><span class="invisible">r5vtqUkaN9</span></a></p>
Margaret Sefton<p>Remember My Name--"Geraldine Chaplin delivers a chillingly effective performance as an unstable woman just out of prison and hell-bent on getting even with the husband (Anthony Perkins) who abandoned her years ago. Produced by Robert Altman, this spellbinding homage to the female-driven noir melodramas of the 1940s à la MILDRED PIERCE amps up their frayed-nerve energy and seething sense of unrest." <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/AmWatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmWatching</span></a> <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Criterion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Criterion</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.criterionchannel.com/alan-rudolph-s-dramas-of-desire/season:1/videos/remember-my-name" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">criterionchannel.com/alan-rudo</span><span class="invisible">lph-s-dramas-of-desire/season:1/videos/remember-my-name</span></a></p>
