Oh! Also: a lot of the ways I've dealt with less "severe" ways of being echolalic (when people didn't like it) was masking, usually by making a face and shutting up. Like "*winces* shit, sorry, nm."
But it's masking, and it had the usual negative effects that masking can have. I'd usually be thinking "...why can't people just let me talk?"
"It's not like I talk that often unless I'm "rehearsed", info dumping, exclaiming or overwhelmed, so you kind of caught me at a good moment...but, ok, I guess."
