Pinned post

Hey, everyone! I'm part of the mass migration coming back after a loooooong absence. While we're all waiting for Twitter to burn to the ground, I'll go ahead and re-introduce myself.

I'm Seth, a man of far too many hobbies. Writing (not much these days), reading, gaming (too much), cats (they're all over the place), and most recently 3d printing and painting those things that I print.

Follow me for pics of all these things, and my random thoughts, quality not guaranteed.

I got into toward the end of 2020 while we were all stuck inside at the height of the pandemic. Started with a humble first gen Mars SLA printer, then added a Uniz IBEE and most recently an AnyCubic Vyper. I’m not selling anything, just a hobbyist who likes making minis and other things to support my gaming habit.

3d printing

But I love the stuff I can print with my FDM... so I guess I'm stuck? Guess it'll just force me to 'git gud', right?

3d Printing

Don't know if we've got any other 3d printers in the shop... but I've got to vent a little bit. I've had my FDM printer for a bit over 6 months now and it's been down, waiting on parts twice. There's just so much that can go wrong! And even when it's working right it's difficult to manage.

Resin (SLA) is messier, but those machines are dead simple and I haven't had a real problem with them in over two years of printing with them.

Pixel (big white cat) doesn’t want attention from his younger sister, Flaidis. It is a shame she doesn’t care.

Alright, yesterday sucked, but I'm back on social media. Unless today sucks too... but I'm rolling the dice!

It's almost 2:00 here... I should eat lunch, right?

Interested in minis for ? Here’s a side by side comparison of a skeleton I printed and painted (left) and a wizkids skeleton on the right.

I see that a good way to make some connections, find new people to follow is to list off 5-7 interests. I'll play and see what happens!

To help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same.

I'd completely forgotten that Mastodon was a completely different experience from birbsite. There's a lot of "hey, here's how you can have a good experience" posts that you never see on the other place. Lot's of community building going on that I hope endures as whatever happens with the other place takes its course.

So what kinds of writing do you do? What projects are folks working on?

I am revising a collection of SFF short stories at the moment. I also have an early draft of a fantasy novel that I should get back to but it is on hold I have more time and energy.

I also try to write poems and have my debut chapbook of translated modern and contemporary Chinese poetry forthcoming in the fall.

Re-Introductions

New Mastodon surge, new #introductions

I'm Phil (He/Him). I have a lot of ideas and not a lot of technical ability. Still, I'd like to think I'm here to help!

My interests include the politics of art, movies, Nintendo, the politics of labor in general, and learning to feed myself.

I'm married to my wonderful wife and we just recently moved to Durham, NC, where I'm interested in meeting folks that want to support the rights of marginalized people and workers. #introduction

My cat trap is working perfectly. Both Pixel and I are having a slow morning.

Writing during the Pandemic

I imagine I'm not alone when I say that the pandemic more or less killed my writing. I'm trying to get back to it...but so far it's still being blocked.

Anyone else have the pandemic negatively effect your art, despite supposedly giving you a lot more time to work on it?
