#Annihilation movie thoughts Show more

Watched Jurassic World today, it was a fun romp filled of classic jurassic tropes. I'm much more interested by the possible themes for the rest of the trilogy.

Apparently the second movie is going to be about the gene splicing technology disseminating world wide, which means it will probably start expanding beyond dinosaurs and start using the tech for more interesting applications.

So here's what I'm hoping for the third movie:
Full on dino

web.archive.org/web/2008051714 is a really interesting read after finishing the Gene Wolfe's Solar Cycle, it explores the ties between the various books and defines a few constructs and themes the author makes clever us of.

Return To The Whorl by Gene Wolfe

This was the last part of The Book of the Short Sun, and the final book set in his New Sun universe.

Once again, Wolfe makes the very identity and nature of the narrator part of the story, the whole new sun universe is fascinating and explores transhumanism in a fascinating way.

Any good in or have ideas on how to draw an alpine ski on a website?

Qualifications are over, the finale has begun! Canada has a lot of athletes that made it

Mikael Kingsbury is one crazy motherf*

Cant seem to upload a video of her run, so you'll have to trust me when I say the athletes are doing pretty good!

Live from The world cup!

Here's a run from a Canadian athlete in the female qualifications, Valerie Gilbert with a score of 77.49 which makes her the last runner up for the finale this afternoon.

Hey #Mastodon folks, would you like to see #ftp, #gopher, #dat and #ipfs (and others!) URI schemes added to text parsing, so those become links in toots?

Please join the discussion at github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

Boost and if you have a GitHub account, get in there and at least leave emoji reactions. I don't want to bother development unless this is a thing a lot of folks care about. ^_^

bsd.network seems to be down, I get a 500 error @phessler @phessler

One of the kids was adamantly opposed to settling near any red dwarf stars.

Introduced my students to over the lunch break and they didnt do half-bad. They settled on a pretty poor but very livable planet, where ended up reverting to a medieval tech level but managed to build a utopian republic with pretty good trade relations with the friendly natives.

Oh heck I just found out about ceilidh.space and my mind is blown by the idea of a Scottish Gaelic/Gaidhlig-friendly Mastodon instance and how powerful Mastodon could be as a language learning tool, particularly for smaller languages without good learning resources.

Just had my best end yet to (and my shortest). Fell on a planet woth a toxic atmosphere on my second scan, but every single other charateristic was great for human life. I lost no colonists, kept the same tech level as earth and ended up with a sustainable egalitarian society.

I'm guessing the airtight cave system helped a lot.

This game is a bit addictive and it's kinda sad whenever humanity goes extinct. But such a warm fuzzy feeling when the colonists end up weird but happy. philome.la/johnayliff/seedship
