Is the Fediverse part of the solution to the global rise of far-right populism?
@evan
Yes, but it's also potentially part of the problem. We can wall them off from the good-Fediverse, but the nature of the thing is that the dark mirror fediverse continues to exist and to connect the worst people.
@silvermoon82 @evan This is exactly what I was going to write. It's worth building fedi to escape being censored and surveilled by oligarchs, but we must constantly grapple with the dark mirror fedi or risk the harm from fedi coming to outweigh the good.
We can never rest on our laurels in terms of moderation, privacy, etc. We must do whatever we can to limit the aid we give to fascists with our technology, and exert ourselves to uplift those the fascists would oppress.
@skyfaller @evan
It's a bit sobering, that everything we build to improve our world can also be used for harm.
I don't think it detracts from the need to build it, though, or from the good we can do.
It does mean we have to be better and louder than the ones misusing our stuff, do more good than they do harm.
