PPS if you have any favorite Linux writing software send recs my way

@silicon I personally dig FocusWriter. Manuskript looks interesting but I haven't tried it yet myself. And Scrivener for Windows runs pretty decently under Wine.

theologeek.ch/manuskript/

@hummingrain I love FocusWriter! I think I've also taken a very brief look at manuskript but haven't really tried it. Might take it for a spin now. Thanks!

@silicon you're quite welcome! I was surprised when I looked at it a few months ago at how mature it seems to have gotten.

@silicon Visual Studio Code and Emacs (with EVIL) are my two preferred text editors.

@silicon I like Write! Which has both some nice features and cluterfree interface. Works for windows, mac and linux writeapp.co/

@krumbukt Cool! This one's new to me!

@silicon
I either use LibreOffice or Atom with Zen mode addon, depends on how much spellcheck I want looking over my shoulder.
Been meaning to try Left
hundredrabbits.itch.io/left

@unwary Ooooh I haven't heard of Left before *looks at*

@unwary @silicon I'm also rocking Atom. It is flexible and simple, all at once!

@ginguin @unwary I actually haven't tried Atom out before but it looks so clean! Might give it a try.

@silicon @unwary The nicest thing about Atom is that I can have it set up the same way at home (Linux) as I can at work (Windows).

@ginguin @silicon
That is nice. I generally program in Clojure, and it's one of the better editors for Clojure out there. That's my personal reason, but I also get to work on linux everywhere.

@silicon Not done much with it yet, but am currently using Ghostwriter : wereturtle.github.io/ghostwrit Like the themes, and the distraction free options etc. #Linux #opensource #writing #software

@Drakfot Oh very cool. I haven't tried this one before, but I love distraction-free editors for the actual writing.

@silicon Indeed, some good inspiring music in the headphones, distraction free writing tool and a cup of coffee is one of my favourite #writing setups :)

@Drakfot Yesssss! What's your favorite writing music?

@silicon I sort of tend to hop around depending on what mood I am in. Sometimes its EBM etc, other times something relaxing. So the best answer I can give is that it varies :)

@Drakfot Makes sense! I tend to go for either classical music or game background music, but I can't do anything with words.

@silicon Found a nice playlist on YT with some psybient I am looking forward to listen to next time I get in the mood to write: youtube.com/watch?v=eqzxBHSKVs #writing #music #focus

@silicon Document writing? I use pandoc so you have all the typsetting capabilities of LaTeX but can write everything in markdown with vim. Then I use aspell for spell check (although you can use :set spell in vim, I just prefer the rhythm that creates) and git for version control. It will also let you generate docx files which some people really like.

@swiley PANDOC IS THE BEST! I love LaTeX typesetting but can't write in it raw.

@frankiesaxx Cherrytree is really cool. I like having personal wikis to keep track of all my character information have have jumped around trying zim, cherrytree, basKet, etc.

@silicon Hey, I just stumbled across your tweet randomly! I’ve felt most comfortable with P.S. Notes. It’s a markdown editor, but lets you view all files in a folder as a notebook so I can split up chapters and have more manageable-length files. I’ve tried a lot of other stuff (and plan elsewhere), but that’s become my go-to.
