PIP, ukpol Show more
if you want to pretend that the PIP system is functioning perfectly well and everyone is being given the right level of benefits, it's probably best not to take away the support of someone as well-connected as, say, the guy who used to run the parliamentary watchdog...
in short: PIP is a complete fuck-up, from start to finish, and it's frankly a fucking miracle anyone gets disability benefits at all in this country.
Duolingo, but for web development. Has anyone built this yet?
Interesting blog on Kobo Writing Life about academics self-publishing. I wish more would. This is mainly because trad academic publishing can be ridiculously overpriced, and as such it keeps in-depth knowledge out of reach for too many people.
The month of Halloween is also #Nano planning month.
I created a bunch of bonkers generators to help get your juices flowing, including this prophecy Generator: http://www.warpcoresf.co.uk/prophecy-generator.php and this one, that generates plots based on Anthropomorphic Personifications: http://www.warpcoresf.co.uk/anthropomorphic-personification-plot-generator.php
Welcome to the first day of Halloween. The Wandering Shop is now a halloween pop-up store as well as a trans-dimensional cafe. I will be making absurd stuff out of candy-corn. Decorative gourds everywhere.
Thank you for your attention.
Happy Lincolnshire Day!
Grace Ellis and Shae Beagle's Moonstruck is so sweet, it's like the definition of comfort fantasy: http://www.warpcoresf.co.uk/moonstruck-volume-1.php #graphicnovel
Writers (and most other artists) put in their blood, sweat, tears, and -- most importantly -- TIME, for a reward that might never come.
So if you love the book, go ahead and show the writer some love.
It's not the thing that keeps us going. Most of us will be tapping away anyway. We're like word sharks -- we stop and we suffocate.
But love improves the experience greatly.
Today, my faith in people was reaffirmed after my partner lost his wallet and a schoolgirl handed it in. We don't know who she is, but that act of kindness made our day.
Amazon have disappeared my book for over a fortnight since I tried to migrate it from Createspace to KDP. Melody of Demons is still "on sale", but where they're getting the files from I have no idea - they're deleted from Createspace and not on my KDP dashboard. Nor can I upload another version, because they reckon they already have it loaded... somewhere.
Lush shampoo update: I tried it once, and my hair feels good and clean. But I'm reserving judgement until after a week's use because I have heard that some types leave a residue.
I bought this shampoo bar from Lush - pencil for scale. It's quite expensive at £7.50, but is supposed to last. I'll find out later whether it's a way to reduce plastic waste and simplify my life or a waste of money.
I couldn't be more excited that this is a thing... http://terribleminds.com/ramble/2018/09/14/you-might-be-the-killer-the-movie/

The Fawcett Society study on women in local government is out, and makes depressing reading. "Virtually no progress". https://www.fawcettsociety.org.uk/news/womens-representation-in-local-government-stuck-in-the-past
Ladies, please consider standing. We need all sectors of society to take part in local government.
