At some point in time, long ago, I vaguely remember thinking volunteering to judge a book contest would be a good idea? I've judged high school journalism contests in the past and those were always bad ideas. Maybe novella contests are better?

@Holly It depends on the contest. I was once on the panel judging the British Fantasy Awards, and that was really interesting. I learned a lot. But it's also quite intense because you commit to reading a lot, some of it outside of your usual genre preferences.

@rosjackson I can see that. I only have to read two novellas, which isn't bad, but one is really outside my genre preferences. I haven't given it a shot yet, so I should be more fair.
