Time for an #introduction post!
My name's Julie. I'm a musician (#oboe) and a #knitter. I have two kids and two cats. I've worked in #nonprofits my entire adult life, including a decade as an #educator at a children's science museum. Now, in a move I never expected but also find unsurprising, I run the children's ministry program at an #ELCA church.
Let's talk about #books, #parenting, #music, #knitting, or whatever you're passionate about!
“The largest known plant on Earth - a seagrass roughly three times the size of Manhattan - has been discovered off the coast of Australia.
Using genetic testing, scientists have determined a large underwater meadow in Western Australia is in fact one plant.
It is believed to have spread from a single seed over at least 4,500 years.”
The points in my Aurora Blue shawl may look complicated, but let me tell you a little secret: they're easy as pie! I made them by pulling the edges of the shawl into points during blocking. The pattern includes links to a photo tutorial showing how I block this shawl shape, as well as to the various stitches & techniques used 😃

Today, for obvious reasons, I recommend Catherynne M. Valente's #Eurovision love letter Space Opera. It's a super fun novel about the earth joining an intergalactic song contest represented by a washed up glam rock band. Its countless nods to the Eurovision Song Contest, including chapters named after previous winners, are just what you need to set the mood. It is also the best possible gift for your Eurovision party host. #BookRecommendation #SFFBooks #ScienceFiction #SciFiBooks #AmReading
My #caturday submission: Perry (orange fluff) and Gozer (calico) napping together on my new blanket. #littermatesforever #mastocats
Interesting blog post from National Museums Scotland with historical examples of mending, both skilled and not, to inspire us all to take up our darning needles!

I've just...stayed off of socials today. I'm afraid to look at FB. I'm sure there's not much of value to find on Birdsite. And even here, I'm seeing sadness and anger, of course, but - what is there to do? I guess that's the crux of it: today, there is very little that can be done. But I suppose it's better to grieve together.

I'm a musician, a knitter, a nerd, and a mom. I'm likely to post about my kids, my cats, and social justice.
