Some of you may remember me raving about beta reading my friend's novel a few months ago. (It's fantastic!)
She and her co-author Karen Healey (who has won actual awards and stuff) have decided to go the self-publishing route.
(I guess overtly feminist high fantasy with complex characters was a tough sell to publishers)
They have a Kickstarter here to fund their cover art etc:
It's not just free money, an e-book copy is one of the backing rewards.
Honestly it's one of the best things I've read in 2017 and I read a lot.
Why:
Complex fully rendered characters that I was invested in before anything even happened plotwise.
A creative and uniquely built world, not the "fantasy version of Europe" I often see.
Fun and engaging high fantasy that isn't grimdark like the world.
Ok. I'm done. Back to talking about tea.
Mmm tea.
I'm not sharing this simply because Robyn is one of my oldest and dearest friends, but because I've read an earlier version of the book and I genuinely think it's worth recommending and something the people I know on here may like.
I hate promoting things and asking for favors, but anyone who considers promoting the link or making a contribution would have my gratitude.
