Hiya, Shop!
My name is Samuel. I decided to try out this alt thing, and thought that the Wandering Shop would be the place to do it, so here's my #introduction
I write #fantasy mostly, but a little bit of #scifi, and at the moment I'm #writing #historicalfantasy.
I'm #studying my MA Creative Writing with the OU at the moment, and for the thing I'm writing, I'm #reading #Faust.
I intermittently write stuff and things here: www.patchworkmind.co.uk
Come say hi! o/
@q_aurelius Open University :D Sorry, I'm forever speaking in short abbreviations!
@patchworkmind Not a problem.
In my cultural context it usually means Ohio University. :)
@q_aurelius Ah, I see! The Open University is a distance learning institution in the UK; do you have it in the US?
(Pfft, 'short abbreviation' what a repetitive tautology... :P)
@patchworkmind Most distance learning in the US is either attached to specific traditional universities or to a handful of for-profit corporation insofar as I'm aware.
@patchworkmind welcome! What era / area is your historical fantasy set in?
@Einahpets Thanks! :D It's set in 1600s London, after the plague. I'm doing my ground work research about the plague and the great fire. Fascinating! It might be a bit more historical fiction with fantasy elements thrown in but I'm not great at judging genre.
What are you writing/reading? ^.^
@patchworkmind I'm not a writer, but I read sci-fi, fantasy, and some horror. Right now I'm reading a sci-fi by Cory Doctorow, Walkaway, while listening to an audiobook on my commute - Scott Lynch's The Republic of Thieves.
I also just started up a short story reading club #storyclub on my account @Einahpets .
@Einahpets Ah, I like Cory Doctorow! I haven't read his fiction but his nonfiction is super interesting.
I'll check your bookclub out ^.^
@patchworkmind What is "the OU" in this context?
