My oldest adoptive kiddo just admitted he's been hiding his heavy drinking and recent divorce. We've invited him to a movie tomorrow and are considering either Shazam! or Hellboy. Is either of those likely to trigger him on the loss of his wife or habit of hiding in a bottle?
@mrszee I don't know if it would trigger anything, but Hellboy is portrayed as a bit of an alcoholic. The movie doesn't focus on it much but it is there.
@minego Shazam turned out to be a great choice :)
@mrszee doesthedogdie indicates mild underage drinking & offscreen domestic abuse for Shazam!
The page for Hellboy is less filled out, but has a yes for alcohol abuse
@Satsuma Shazam! was a good choice. Better than I could have planned for some family parallels.
@mrszee life and art do seem quite fond of imitating eachother :)
I’m glad the movie choice worked out well
@mrszee No. I wouldn't worry about triggering him. He'll be thinking of those things anyway.
Hellboy is more distracting but it's up to you.
Sometimes the best thing anyone can do is to just be there, let them talk and don't try to fix it for them.
I have to remember that myself all the time. GL.
@Luxx Thank you for the encouragement.
@Luxx Shazam! was a good choice. We had some really normal family time and laughter.
@mrszee Good deal.
