If “abolish the police” is hard to wrap your head around, think of it as “obsolete the police”. Creating systems of healthy, timely, supportive interventions that leave the police with nothing to do, like the fictional Maytag repairman.

@PeteBleackley Abolish armed militias, certainly. Keep emergency responders for actual emergencies (cross-train them for fire and paramedic work, like in Sunnyvale, CA). And have systems nothing like police that get people counseling when they need it, and a decent safety net, heading off problems before they need emergency response.
