White-breasted nuthatches have been regular visitors all year long, but until this week I haven’t been able to get a decent photograph of them.

This past Tuesday we had at least five blue jays at the feeder. When I started processing the photos, I discovered that at least one of them was banded.

Some recent bird photos: Black-capped Chickadee; Hairy Woodpecker—the latter distracted from drilling into our house by a bribe of suet.

This afternoon we were paid a visit by a pair of Pine Grosbeaks (Pinicola enucleator). Amazed to learn that this is their winter range.

Yesterday’s cat picture: 5 likes on Instagram, 6 on Facebook, 2 on Twitter—and 36 on Mastodon (plus 24 boosts).

Mastodon is apparently starved for cat pictures.
