Money Show more
This month has been super stressful, cash flow wise... I keep coming up with schemes to try and make money because my day job is not cutting it. Two adults one income is fuckin' rough.
The dog needing vet visits and the car needing brakes and also I just committed to monthly payments on this double bass have all happened at once and it is STRESSING ME OUT.
I'll make it. I'm just venting. But ... stress.
Politics are like an accent: if you think someone hasn't got any, it just means they share yours.
anti-vaxxers Show more
I just had the most pleasant internet fight.
My cousin posted a video from an anti-vaxxer site saying that a new study had found some new link showing that ASD is caused by mercury in vaccines.
I tracked down the study, read the abstract, summarized for my cousin what the study ACTUALLY determined, and why the conclusions drawn by this site were false.
His response? "Wow, thanks for telling me. It's amazing the BS people write."
I'll call that a win.
So far I have approached the "lol triggered" conversation from the angle that I super do not have the energy to change this person's mind, so I have just asked them to cut that shit out because it make ME PERSONALLY really upset, rather than because he is being shitty in general.
He agreed to cut it out, but said that it was only because of me personally asking in that way, and doubled down on the fact that he doesn't think it is a generally shitty thing to say.
Sigh. Small victories, I guess.
I am realizing increasingly today that there are few things that people can say that make me more angry than "Lol triggered".
I really do þink ðat English should just adopt ðe þorn and eð, instead of ambiguous 'th's.

Now is a good time to let those shoulders drop.
Record breaking deep freeze with windchill -30, frozen fog, road-paralyzing snow dump, freezing rain, now +7-8 degrees, melting and flooding.
In the past 5 days.
Go home January you're drunk.
Best part of #agdq2018: the part where they taught a guy in half an hour to speedrun Strider and his first time after that was under 10 minutes and they said "see, anyone can do this" and after that people start sending donation messages with their own first times
Worst part: thinking about my family's medical history
I man the IT helpdesk at my company solo, so I sit by myself, and no one ever talks to me unless they need something.
There is just enough of a space between me and the rest of my team (who all sit very close together) that I can see when they are hanging about talking, but can't hear well enough to participate. Aside from that, I would have to stand up and shout at them anyway.
It is just how it has to be, but it is beginning to feel really isolating.
i was gonna make a toot (not a subtoot, more anticipatory) about good ways to respond to health-related toots but this actually applies to pretty much everything so:
please try to only offer advice when advice is asked for. i know for a fact i'm guilty of this sometimes and it comes from a good place of wanting to help! but also remember that sometimes people just need to vent
Grief, death Show more
Someone from my mom's work keeps surprising me with "hey, can you help me get access to this social media thing that you set up for your mom for the store?" (Context: My mom died last summer.)
So not only does she drop this emotional bombshell on me in the middle of my work day, but she also needs me to step-by-step walk her through how to do the thing, since she is 'not a computer person'.
Trying to figure out at what point I am allowed to feel okay about blocking her messages.
tRPG friends may find this useful.
The initiative track my friends use. Simple and brilliant. Easy to modify, everyone can see it.
Warmth and safety to everybody. You know, this was gonna be about a specific situation but hey. All y’all be warm and safe.
My current levels of anxiety tell me that probably green tea has too much caffeine in it for me.
I quit coffee a few months ago for anxiety reasons, but it seems like I gotta go even colder turkey.
