From Elmore Leonard’s Rules of Writing
“My most important rule is one that sums up the 10. If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it. Or, if proper usage gets in the way, it may have to go. I can’t allow what we learned in English composition to disrupt the sound and rhythm of the narrative. It’s my attempt to remain invisible, not distract the reader from the story with obvious writing. (Joseph Conrad said something about words getting in the way of what you want to say.)”

there's gold in them/their hills
The knight looked at the purring pile, and turned to the dragon.
"You hoard cats?"
"Aren't they sweet?"
"You can't sleep on a hoard of cats!"
"Of course not. They usually sleep on me."
"You are their hoard?"
"Why so concerned with labels?"
"I don't want to fight you."

The 3 unlikely friends turn to you. The skater bro nods. "You have my board," he says. Then the preppy girl gestures to the fancy ribbon in her hair. "And my bow." Then the jock steps up, scent of body spray thick in the air. "And my Axe," he says. Maybe this new school won't be so bad...
"You have a secret room?"
"Yes, in here. For the most valuable thing I have, when I need to keep it safe."
"I am honoured that you're showing me... It's empty?"
"I used to hide me here."
"Oh. Wait, are you going to lock me in?"
"No. I'm inviting you, to come here when you like."

The trees were tall above their heads.
They sang and walked until the trees grew shorter - stunted or saplings they weren't sure - no one had ever walked this far before.
The grass grew sparser and the ground grew softer. An expanse of water stretched out before them.
Many turned back, unable to comprehend the depths they beheld.
The ones who stayed learned to swim and made new songs, venturing further than they ever imagined they could.
"I'll be durned" fact of the day: The original She-Ra series was originally co-written by J. Michael Straczynski, who might be a familiar name to B5 fans ;)
Might explain the kind of deep built-in character conflict/development for a kids' TV show, at least some of which seems to have carried over to the new one. (Currently watching and loving.)

I need to just go ahead and export all my Scrivener stuff to Markdown before the Scrivener for Windows 3.x betas expire. =_= I could pull out my Mac and take care of it, but this is probably simpler... viva la Linux :)
Cross-posting this, I have been keeping a primarily Japanese language account over here if anyone is interested in conversing!
I first started studying Japanese about 20 years ago, so there's not much excuse for how bad I am at it. ^^; (Well, other than that it was all sporadic self-study.) What absorbed into my brain: kana, basic grammar. What didn't: most of the vocabulary. Ah well, I'm giving it my best try.
