Hi everyone, I have been lured on here so I'll attempt to introduce myself.
I'm Katy. I'm an #archivist and #rarebook #librarian in Philadelphia, a mom to a teen boy, and in all of my abundant spare time I write #poetry, #fanfic (mostly romantic #doctorwho), and I'm trying to write an actual historical #romance novella. I also love #knitting, #football, #hockey, #yoga, and #running. Oh, and on twitter I'm lemurchild, if anyone's over there.
@Soless Not gonna lie, it's pretty fun!
@lemurchild do you leave smelling like old books every night?
@Soless Only if I'm shifting a lot of books or something! But I *do* love smelling the books...
@lemurchild welcome aboard
@lemurchild Greetings! I am not a librarian but I have worked in libraries and with book arts/book restoration.
I am a big fan of #doctorwho; do you post your fanfic online?
What era for your historical romance?
I like #knitting, my momโs a #yoga instructor, and some day maybe Iโll get into running.
@aldersprig Hi! I do post my #fanfic, I'm on AO3 as Smackofjellyfish. My "regular" #romance is set in 1840s London, and I have both a series of novellas and a series of full-length novels rattling around in my brain. I'm currently working on one of the novellas, but sllloooowwwwlllyyyy.
#running, #yoga, and #knitting are what keep me sort of/kind of sane. ๐
Thanks for the welcome!
@lemurchild Cool, Iโll check it out!
I hear you on sloooowwwwly. I have trouble focusing on one project, so I keep bouncing between things.
@lemurchild I'm trained as a reference librarian, but I haven't actually worked in a library for a couple of years. These days I'm homeschooling my kid and selling stitch patterns and designs for finished objects.
Good to see you here; I don't know how I missed your post yesterday!
@lemurchild Hello and welcome!
@lemurchild
who from Doctor Who do you write about? And what are you knitting now?
@lemurchild Hi Katy. Welcome. I've a large family contingent living in the Philadelphia area. I'm in Chicago myself.
I've been building a web library since 1998 focused on poverty, inequality, youth development, etc. which I encourage people in cities to use to build and sustain needed youth and family support in all high poverty areas. This concept map shows four main categories of the library. http://tinyurl.com/TMI-library
I'm on Twitter @tutormentorteam
@lemurchild What's up, Katy? Welcome to our little corner of the internet.
@lemurchild I heard from one US librarian friend that #librarians and #archivists are two different mindsets and therefore communities. Would you agree? If yes, which one are you?
@saper THAT is a loaded question! #Archives and #libraries do have some very important differences, tho the skill set/training has some overlap. Not all #archivists went to library school or have library experience, and many don't work in libraries at all. And Lord knows many #librarians don't know anything about archives.
But some of us have training and experience in both, and cross that boundary. I work in an academic library, and my particular job encompasses both archives and rare books.
@lemurchild Hello, welcome!
@lemurchild Awesome job! Welcome to Mastodon ๐
@lemurchild Welcome to the herd!
@lemurchild
Welcome.
Sounds like you are a perfect fit on this site.
Philadelphia - you're just across the pond from me. In fact I can probably see your house from here.
This was blooming in my garden last Christmas. Welcome. https://mastodon.cloud/media/g0pBXj6DSTM-_YKZtBM
@crowdyke Thank you! Those flowers are so beautiful - I love persistent blooming against the winter garden.
@lemurchild RARE BOOK LIBRARIAN?! That sounds amazing.
