Casey’s been thinking about the question of a pronoun field in profiles, balanced with the desire to not collect much demographic data. So he’s added three custom fields to the profile, which can be used for anything you please. See his examples in this post:

He’s planning to add them to the pop up window that shows when hovering over Ravatars in forums (and he’s pondering how to make that work with mobile devices).
